  • It’s no longer news, it’s propaganda

    Almost all I get in the mobile app these days is links to websites (especially government websites) announcing changes. This is not “news” - it’s announcements by entities of actions they are taking. Of course, these announcements have whatever bias/spin the entity builds in. I want to see articles from reliable news sources that present what’s happening with their commentary including reactions from people impacted or commentary from those who witnessed the event. Currently, Google News is useless.

  • Old news and too much propaganda

    First off, lately half the news in my feed is some White House (or other .gov) propaganda. Many have headlines in all caps. There’s no way to filter them either. But pandering and gaslighting aside, what’s more aggravating for me is that many of the other articles in my feed are simply -old- news. Like some are several days to a week old! And refreshing does nothing. I have another news aggregation app in which articles are updating constantly and I’m able to follow breaking news stories. You’d think with the vast resources of Alphabet/ Google they could put together a better news app… but here we are

    What used to be my go to app for news has become the outlet for Trump Admin propaganda, with no ability to block it. Google has obviously sold out. Deleted.

    The Google news aggregator has gotten so bad lately that I have to constantly block government propaganda feeds, corporate press releases, and news from providers that all hide their stories behind a paywall.

    I used to love this app. I was addicted. But, for the last few months, it’s been 96% press releases and I can’t get rid of them. Today, there was a post from Vista Corps Investor Relations. What? In what universe do I care? I have starred multiple news sites as well as interests that I would like to follow and they rarely, if ever, show up in my feed. This app is now a waste of time.

    About half the news stories you open will open a page to join a subscription and it is impossible to navigate away from the page. The only thing you can do is force close the app. They can’t make a news reader app, how the f are they going to make AGI.

  • WebView is garbage

    You’re better off adding a shortcut to your home screen so the articles open in a real browser. Extra bonus: your adblock extensions will work when you open in Safari instead of this broken garbage app.

  • Provides fine tuned news, articles can be unreadable due to auto reloads

    The news app is a great source of news articles that match your interests. Unfortunately reading articles on iPhone can be extremely frustrating when the page reloads without warning and loses where you were reading. Ads pop up without close buttons. It benefits Google to not fix these issues because it means more ad impressions for them to monetize. It’s unfortunate they never bothered to fix these issues that consistently happen when reading the articles. They do a great job and recommending articles.

  • Getting worse and worse

    I’m about to delete the app. More and more articles are inaccessible because of paywalls and privacy walls. At least Apple warns you not to bother with their News +.
