  • News Feed and Widget are Atrocious

    I picked this up switching from a Samsung to an iPhone so I could replicate my hand-tailored news feed from the News section accessed by swiping left from the home screen on Android. What I found was that the widget is both incompatible with the new UI features on iPhone like the “Clear” design which makes it a blank white square, alongside the widget purposefully not displaying any of your tailored news and instead pushing only their paid-for shill stories. Even using the app, only the garbage shill stories are available at the top of the “For You” section and you have to scroll past at least 6-8 chunks of irrelevant junk just to get to the stuff that’s actually useful. Terrible app and terrible business practices, find something better that doesn’t shove under-the-table paid advertising in your face all day.

    Long time fan until google news started adding white house .gov press releases / propaganda in its news feed. It’s not news! Stop kissing trumps and his administrations backside.

  • Was OK but now it’s very irritating and unreliable

    Too many can not load content errors when you’re halfway through an article. Too many pop ups. Too many redirects. Sometimes after being redirected you can’t get out of the ad and have to close the app start over. Then sometimes the article you were reading no longer appears. I can’t take the aggravation anymore and am off loading the app.

    Tinting icons on iOS26, it renders the widget unviewable unless your icons are original colored or dark. Fix this, please. 11:38am CST/10-24-25/iOS26/17PM

    Widget needs help, as it does not render properly when using clear icons and widgets. It just shows a white rectangle. Please fix.

    Constantly crashes while loading, freezes and crashes in the middle of reading articles. Has been like this for months and they have not fixed it. This is Google, not “Joe’s News Service. “ You can figure out a way to take all my personal information and sell it to others without telling or paying me for it but you can’t figure out how to fix your own app. C’mon!!

    There is so much news out there but Google News picks up so few stories. Many catagories are so outdated so often. Catagories are good but hardly any news updates throughout the day compared to other apps.

  • Needs more customizability

    This app needs a way to suggest less or more ‘similar stories’ or increase/decrease the prevalence of certain sources or news outlets. For example “Headlines” showing me celebrity marriages or other vain news only serve to clutter my feed with nonsense. Im also disinterested in state controlled propaganda outlets like Al Jazeera but have no way of removing them from my feed.

    No only are there ads on every page, there are ads inside the story text, ads that are scamy, stories that come from sources you have never heard of. I dont think I trust this app. Not very google-like imho.
