Extremely slow processing, missing common texting features, only use it because I have to. It’s like they don’t care about the app

Google, why doesn’t this app give me a notification that I need to reverify my forwarding number? Instead you send an email with unclear instructions. I get hundreds of emails. And then yours goes to spam. What a ridiculous scenario. You can do better.

The thought behind this app is great, in theory. But I’ve had this app for about three months now, and my number has been suspended by Google TWICE with no notice. I just realized I suddenly wasn’t getting any calls, then looked at my status, and saw it had been suspended. I sent an appeal and said I hadn’t violated any of the rules, they said it was probably a mistake and reinstated it. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN ONLY A COUPLE WEEKS LATER!! Absolutely ridiculous. I’ve already told others not to use it, so I’m telling you guys here too. I never review apps…I think this might be my first one. But this experience has been so bad that I had to let people know.
  • This platform is pretty good except for

I really enjoy the ease of being able to have another phone number attached to my phone for business only. It’s made things much easier. The thing that bothers me almost daily is that SO MANY non scam calls are directed to scam causing a loss of potential clientele. I am constantly calling people back as they tell me there was no ringing on their end (do to the fact that Google Voice thinks it’s a scam). It’s very frustrating having a new obstacle to navigate when trying to remove another. I hope they fix this issue soon.
  • “Reclaimed” the number I’ve had for the last 12 years and took the money in the account

TL;DR- go find another VOIP provider because Voice is no longer good. My number was “reclaimed” and given to someone else and my money was taken. I was told there is nothing I can do about it as the “grace” periods had passed . Go download ringcentral or dial pad or something, but not this. When google first announced voice, I signed up enthusiastically and encouraged my friends to do so. Despite the fact that many standard features were missing, like MMS, I stuck with GV for more than a decade. I used the number for 2FA in some websites, and in general gave it out when I didn’t want to use my personal number. I also put money in my account to make international phone calls, as I have to do that occasionally. Today, I tried to log in to one of my accounts, sent the authentication code to my google voice number, only to find that I have no google voice number. Google took it upon themselves to “reclaim” my number and give it to somebody else. To add Insult to injury, they took the money I had in the account, and insisted that because more than 6 months had passed since I put the money in, that I was ineligible for a refund. As if money “expires”.. In the past, I could go years without actually using the number, and nothing would happen. I would just stay signed in on my active devices, as I always have been, and I wouldn’t have to worry. I don’t know when or why this changed, but I can no longer recommend or endorse this service because of it. The money doesn’t really matter so much to me tho, what bothers me more is that there are people who I know I won’t ever be able to speak to again because of this nonsense. My disappointment is truly immeasurable, and my day is ruined. To all who have read this far: Learn from my mistakes, and go download a VOIP app that is in no way associated with google, lest you suffer the same fate as me.
  • Mostly good, but limited and needs to be deleted and reinstalled regularly

I definitely appreciate having this app, as I rely on Google Voice to allow me to handle personal communication on my work phone. It’s mostly great for that. The two issues I have, which causes me to do 4 stars instead of 5, is that first, text groups are very limited. It can’t handle more than 6, or whatever the number is. The second issue is that it slows WAY down after a few weeks of use due to a large data cache, and the only way to fix that is to delete the app and reinstall it. It would be GREAT if there was a clear cache option, or better yet, an automated cache clear.

I HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS SAME APP WITH THE SAME NUMBER FOR OVER 3 YEARS NOW AND RARLEY HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH IT UBTIL NOW. WHEN MAKING A CALL YOU CANT NOT ACCESS THE KEY PAD. LIKE SAY IF IM CALLING A DOCTORS OFFICE AND I NEED TO PRESS 1 FOR NEW PATIENT OR PRESS 2 IF YOUR NOT NEW. WELL I CANT CLICK ON THE KEY PAD. WHY IS IT DOING THAT NOW? CAN I DELETE THE APP AND REINSTALL BUT STILL KEEP THE SAME NUMBER?

It seems that after the last two updates with Version 24:32 , 24:34 the numeric keypad, mute and hold buttons are no longer functional during a conversation for example you cannot mute a call as well activate the numeric keypad to provide feedback when prompted by an automated response system. I have a requested assistance from the Google Voice development team two weeks ago but my problem still exist the latest version for my device rolled out a couple of days back and it did not fix the issue at hand.
