  • Annoying hiccups and audio dropouts since v10.8.1

The description says that replay is faster. Nope! Starting in version 10.8.1, I get video hiccups or freezes and audio dropouts when playing a project. In addition, starting replay comes with a delay of several seconds, occasionally more than 10! Unfortunately, that has not changed in version 11.0. I hope the developers will get a handle on that soon, as it drastically slows down my editing workflow.

  • Disappointing v11 update

Unfortunately we still don’t have a role-based audio mixer, or automatic role-based audio-ducking, or a vastly improved tracking algorithm, which would have warranted a v11 version. We do get “magnetic masking”, which does work well in my early tests. This is a solid feature with a lot of opportunities. Unfortunately auto-captions do not work well from my early tests. A test resulted in many mistakes by the speech-to-text algorithm, which is miles behind Whisper. Why don’t they simply license that model? The result: I end up having to do a lot of manual work there. It’s also unclear how to apply text effects to the captions. I also find it surprising there is no way to convert captions into titles, which is a must-have for social media posts! I *still* have to export my captions and convert it using an online tool, then import them back via XML. Instead we have a feature no one will use, which is editing spatial video for Apple Vision Pro. I get the need for this (it’s a company mandate obviously), but I know for certain there’s going to be a handful of people actually using it. Lastly…when are they ever going to update the list of titles, generators, effects, and more to something modern? The stuff they include reminds me of early 2000s Steve Jobs era design language. For the rest, still a solid NLE. I just wish Apple dedicated more resources to this product.
