  • Blown away!

Left the company I worked for and lost access to Microsoft word, pretty distraught about having to buy it myself until a friend suggested I try out Number/Pages just to see. Figured I’d hate it from my previous experience a decade or more ago. Shocked by the intuitiveness, parity to excel, and overall polish, it’s not perfect but I haven’t found a thing it can’t do for myself that Excel could. 4.5/5 if I could.
  • Problem with collaborating

For the other person, the file name ends in a different number, and my changes don’t show up for them immediately
  • Works, but no assistance or scripting available.

Almost like excel, but of course different. It works well for simple tasks, but if you need to work with spreadsheets frequently there is ZERO scripting ability. Add that while help is available on most topics, if you have anything complex you will need to figure it out on your own or ask the support community. I mean the user support, not Apple support. For example I needed to parse an error log with codes, and time stamps, and doing it on a PC with Excel was simple. Trying to do it in Numbers was nearly impossible. Also as there is no scripting ability, you cannot automate anything. This is idiocy.

Apple should do better on this. I like it, but it could be so much better. I wish the Apple executive staff would “eat their own dogfood”. If they did they would not put up with many of the features in iWork that are simply not up to snuff. On the other hand, the collaboration is excellent, integration with Time Machine and infinite revert is outstanding and you can make things look so much better, faster and easier than in Microsoft Office. It is a 5 star application suite in waiting and always will be.

I am so used to Excel (basic skills) that it is taking me a moment to learn it. Still alot to learn and I wish there was tutorials on here to learn more than the basics.

Numbers is easier to use and is compatible with Excel files, except for Excel Macros, which I never use due to complexity and hidden error potential.

I didn’t realize how helpful Numbers can be! It’s so simple to navigate as someone who dislikes creating spreadsheets. 10/10
  • Crashes consistently

Plenty of space on my MacBook Air, and Numbers still consistently and continually crashes. I have to save every time I add a LINK. I save every minute or two. Ludicrous. And as per Apple’s recommended maximum disk usage, I use 75%. Numbers has some good features, and I’ve mastered it after using Excel for years. But the crashing supersedes any enjoyment I get from Numbers.
