I've used iMovie off and on probably since it was first introduced. In recent years it seems to be getting more and more frustrating to use. I find myself having to first edit things in Photos then bring it into iMovie (through a slow and cumbersome process) and hope I don't need to make other edits that are better done in Photos so I don't have to keep moving back and forth between two programs. Why aren't the video edits that are available in Photos not available in iMoive? And don't get me started on how poorly iMovie handles editing vertical videos destined for TikTok, Reels, etc...

I’ve used iMovie to make a few different YouTube videos, all of which were ok experiences. Recently I am unable to open the Import function without the app crashing. Any way I try to go about it, after selecting the “Import” feature - the finder dialogue box for selecting your desired media opens for half a second - and then iMovie crashes. I’ve uninstalled iMovie. I’ve cleared the cache. I’ve updated my OS. Crashing, crashing, crashing into oblivion. So disappointing.

Coming in as one of the largest apps on my computer iMovie is virtually unusable. It relies on a very archaic file structure that is forced upon you.

I tried IMovie to edit some Mountain bike footage I got at Whistler bike park and it was only about 9 min long but IMovie just says Unable to save video and does not work at all.

I’ve used iMovie for over 14 years, but for some reason when I go to export a video that’s over an hour long the storage gets full fast. Could you find some way to fix this issue? I never really had this issue on my late 2011 MacBook Pro. Maybe because it had a 1 TB SSD, but that’s beside the point. Is there a way to rectify the problem?

With free options that are more powerful, it's time to add features.
