I like all of the functions and templates for slides, but it could take a while to get a hang of some of the features. Still really good.
  • Creating edited themes doesn’t work

In trying to save save a new theme, edited from a previous theme. what happens is that the edit are lost and all that is added to the gallery of potential themes is a copy of the theme first opened (without the edits).
  • The compatibility is not good. some editing features are not as convenient and confusing.

It is not as easy as ppt to create a new theme. The text editing UI is not as convenient as ppt. The fonts and format cannot be shared with ppt. There are more people using ppt so it is important for me to make a compatible version to collaborate with others.
  • The best tool for a teacher

I’ve been teaching for about 10 years in various universities in the Vancouver (BC) area. Keynote is my go-to tool for presenting information in a visual way that helps people learn. One of the courses I’ve taught involves User Interface Design, so aesthetics count. Keynote, by far, produces the best looking screens. If my screens looked as clunky and corporate as the one’s I’ve seen from Powerpoint, I don’t think the message would get through as well. Many of the animations (particularly the ‘Magic Move’ transition) seal the deal. With this tool, I can often present complex ideas in such a way that most students can grasp them.

Keynote is a useful tool with all the professional development sessions that I lead. Not only do I love building the presentation slides, I end up wowing my clients with smooth animations. One thing I really love is that I can pair my iPad mini and use it as a remote.
  • Could improve in Presenter Mode

I use Canva for presentations more because it lists the upcoming slides visually at the bottom and you can scroll through them. I appreciate being able to see my notes from my iPad as use it to remote control the presentation it.
