  • Basic, poor image editor

I’ve tried removing the backgrounds of 10 photos and it’s done a terrible job on all 10. On one photo it actually removed the nose in the center of the face as well as the background. The removal is destructive, so you can’t make adjustments to it. The healing brush is also laughably bad. I tried to remove a birthmark on the face and it duplicated her eye, lol. I’ve heard so many LIES about this being a photoshop replacement - it just isn’t. As a new MacBook user I’ve come to resent the cult-like Apple community over hyping every mediocre thing.
  • Excellent App!

Fantastic app that gets even better the more you treat it like its own thing instead than trying to use it exactly like Photoshop. The selection and masking tools are class-leading and the performance is very smooth.

Pixelmator Pro is a perfect allrounder. It is very close behind Photoshop (for example removing backgrounds Adobe is better) but the speed of use in PP and UI design is fast and elegant.
  • Pixelmator Pro: Still Brilliant, But is Development Stalling?

Pixelmator Pro has long been my go-to image editor on the Mac, and for good reason. Its beautiful, Mac-native interface, powerful tools, and (initially) impressive integration of Apple's latest technologies made it a joy to use and a genuine competitor to more established players. The one-time purchase price was, and still is, a huge plus. However, lately, my enthusiasm has been waning, and it stems from a perceived slowdown in meaningful, feature-rich updates. Looking at the version history, while there are consistent releases, many of them feel like 'generic bug fixes' or minor tweaks rather than substantial advancements that push the software forward in a significant way. It reminds me of the development cycle of some other apps closely tied to Apple's ecosystem, where major innovations seem to take a backseat to compatibility updates and smaller refinements. For instance, while recent updates have brought welcome additions, the pace of groundbreaking new tools or significant workflow enhancements feels sluggish. One might look at the version numbers and see consistent ticking, but as a long-time user, I'm yearning for those "wow" updates that redefine what's possible or significantly streamline complex tasks – the kind of updates that characterized its earlier years. The focus often seems to be on maintaining compatibility or polishing existing features, which, while necessary, doesn't excite or empower users in the same way as bold new features would. Pixelmator Pro remains a capable and often delightful application. Its core is strong, leveraging Metal for impressive performance, and its machine learning features are genuinely useful. But the feeling that its development has hit a plateau, prioritizing incremental changes over bold new directions, is hard to shake. Conclusion: If you're new to Pixelmator Pro, you'll likely be impressed by its current feature set and ease of use. It's a fantastic value proposition. However, for those of us who have been with it for a while and have seen its potential, the current update cadence feels less like a sprint of innovation and more like a maintenance jog. I sincerely hope the Pixelmator Team has some major surprises up their sleeves because this excellent foundation deserves to keep growing boldly.

  • Miss the Incremental Improvements…

This is a SUCH a great piece of software. It’s my go-to image editor, and it’s VERY reasonably priced for what it does. However, since Apple took it over, I’ve really missed the monthly incremental feature improvements and bug fixe (as well as the incredibly well-written release notes) that were its hallmark.
  • Wow!!

So easy to use and very user-friendly. My photos already look a million times better than just using Preview. Worth 10x its price!
