Description

Keep your mind sharp with word and logic puzzles from New York Times Games. Free to download, the app offers new puzzles daily for every skill level. App Features and Games: NEW: STRANDS Our latest game lets you find hidden words and uncover the day’s theme. It’s the word search you know, with a twist. WORDLE Play the original Wordle — created by Josh Wardle — in our app. Guess the 5-letter word in 6 tries or less, and analyze your guesses with Wordle Bot. SPELLING BEE Is scrambling your strong suit? Play the daily Spelling Bee and see how many words you can make with 7 letters. THE CROSSWORD Subscribers can play the same daily puzzle that’s printed in The New York Times, in our app. Crosswords increase in difficulty throughout the week. CONNECTIONS Group words with a common thread in four mistakes or fewer. Analyze every puzzle with Connections Bot to see how your skills stack up. SUDOKU Looking for a numbers game, minus the math? Play Sudoku and fill each 3x3 set of boxes with numbers 1 to 9. Play a new puzzle every day in easy, medium or hard mode. THE MINI CROSSWORD The Mini is all the fun of the Crossword, but you can solve it in seconds. These word puzzles don’t increase in difficulty throughout the week and feature simpler clues. TILES Unwind while you match elements in the day’s pattern — the key is to make consecutive matches. LETTER BOXED Create words using letters around the square. Letter Boxed is another fun way to test your word-making skills. STATS Track your progress for the Crossword, Wordle and Spelling Bee. For the Crossword, monitor your average solve times, see how many puzzles you can solve in a row, and more. Plus follow your streak on Wordle, and track how often you reach each level in Spelling Bee. LEADERBOARD Add friends to your leaderboard and follow daily scores across Wordle, Connections, Spelling Bee and the Mini. Plus, explore your score history. PUZZLE ARCHIVE Subscribers can now solve over 10,000 past puzzles from Wordle, Connections, Spelling Bee and the Crossword. Whole family works on them. We look forward to Spelling Bee and Connections and who can get the Friday and Saturday crossword first.

It’s no puzzle. The NYT is an eager stenographer for fascism and doesn’t deserve your subscription. Liberals will look the other way, but now is the time to make every choice matter.
  • Cost is to high.

I just wanted to do a couple games before bed, I am not paying for a subscription to play a crossword game. No matter what option or mode I selected, every one of them was paid. Not counting the additional packs. 5.99 a month is crazy to me when I only cared about the cross word portion. I’ll download a truly free one.
  • Great, but…

My son and I absolutely love this app. We play it together and separately, and love every bit of it. But why oh why can’t we have an archive of Strands?!? Almost everything else has an archive where we can play more games, but Strands is our favorite, and we can only play once a day! 😭 Would it be so hard?
  • Shared leaderboard doesn’t work at all

I like some of the games BUT the shared leaderboard doesn’t work at all. Seems like it ought to be simple to allow you to add contacts and find friends already playing, but no. The Manage Friends page has only one function: you can send a link that tells its recipient to download the app. It doesn’t add them as a friend or allow you to see their profile. It does nothing. Useless feature. I downloaded the app yesterday as a way to stay a little bit in touch with my sister. And it can’t even do that. I sent her the link (the ONLY thing you can do on the leaderboard page), and she said it didn’t work. She sent me a link, it did nothing besides open my app. So I deleted my app and clicked her link again to see if that would link us— nope, just brought me to the App Store to re-download it. Makes no sense. I’d love to see you fix that and add even the most basic method of connecting people. Thanks

Moving all of your games to a subscription based access is not going to get more money. It’s going to harm your advertising revenue as more people use alternative methods of access that give you zero income. But I’m just an average Joe who hasn’t paid you a cent for your news, yet read every major article you’ve posted for the last 10 years. Funny, that.

So when I got this I was like yay bc my mom and sis have it and I got in and it didn’t work so if it doesn’t work for you then you need to open safari then do it and I love this I love how it not to hard or too easy and just so you know it’s daily it not if you do wordle you can do it again and it’s different you do wordle one day then the next day over all I really recommend this if you like puzzles hope this review helps!
  • Great Puzzles. Poor support and moderation

I enjoy the games, but there are random inclusions and exclusions of words that make no sense. When I asked for clarification I was given a word salad that explained nothing. Further, the comment section is either not moderated at all, or done heavy-handedly. I tried to contact support to ask what the criteria was for their moderation because it seemed random and uneven (much like the word inclusions and exclusions), they put me on hold and disconnected the call, twice. I was neither rude nor angry, I simply wanted clarity, yet evidently that was a bridge too far for the NYT Games staff. It’s unfortunate because I enjoy the games, why a poor attitude or lax support from the staff is allowed to detract from that is beyond me.

Feature request: please add a way for the app to recognize and notify users when a guess has already been the answer in a previous puzzle.
