  • Great content, mediocre app

The content is excellent, and I use this app more than any other publication. But the app performance is awful. It’s really slow to load, and response to any click or command is incredibly sluggish. I think it’s gotten worse recently, so hopefully there will be a fix soon.

Love the content posted, especially the Reporter Reads and the Daily. Some pieces are hard to find. For example, I can always find This American Life on the Pocket Casts app before I see it on the NYT app.

  • app needs work

like others, love the reporting, love the podcasts. the app doesn’t link with ANYTHING - we don’t use bluetooth to connect to our home’s speaker systems (too frustrating) and this app doesn’t connect to the google chromecast, which is SO annoying. if you’re going to force us to use your own app, at least integrate it into the wider systems first!
  • Very glitchy

Terrific content, but I frequently can’t get the app to open! I get stuck on the loading screen for full minutes, quit and reload, to no avail. App also will not work without an internet connection, even if the stories have been downloaded, which makes it much less useful. It’s used a lot more of my data than I’d like, but then it won’t work when I disallow it from cell data manually.
  • Great content, but app needs work

The journalism and audio storytelling on this app are top-notch—some of the best in the business. But the app itself is frustrating to use. It’s often slow to load, frequently glitchy, and doesn’t feel as smooth or responsive as other podcast or audio apps. I find myself missing episodes or giving up mid-stream because of playback issues. I really hope the team can invest in improving the performance and stability. The content deserves a better experience.
  • Annoying to use

Having NYT audio access is spectacular, but I find this app highly annoying to use. The user interface is odd and confusing. It shouldn’t be easier to use the NYT app to access audio than the audio specific app.
  • Good audio, bad app

Recordings are all great, and the variety of publications is impressive. App however has serious issues that need resolving. Fast forwarding / scrubbing doesn’t work via headphone controls. Loading times for playing content can be awfully long. Scrolling a feed sometimes adds content to your queue if your thumb is over the + button. New menus open unpredictably from the side or bottom, so standard back swiping doesn’t always work. Browsing for new content is unintuitive and could use an overhaul. In summary: a lot of really basic design mistakes which were solved years ago by other audio apps.

Having news that just happed with enough information that, I think are from a reliable source, helps ease or get excited of what is happening in this new Goverment era. Where you are not certain what is true and isn’t.
  • Why is this so glitchy?

I don’t know why this app hesitates more than my others. It is not as smooth as the podcast app. It takes forever to open. Great content. Wish it worked better.
