  • Deceptive billing practices

    It’s disheartening that the Athletic and the New York Times resort to employing deceptive user experience practices to generate revenue. They make it difficult to realize that they turn on auto renewal, never give you a heads up that you are about to be charged for an entire year and insist they don’t do refunds.

    Used to be a credible and informative source of sports news and tactical analysis. Has become click bait journalism with mediocre analysis and even deceptive notions at times. Sad.

    I don’t want to read the Athletic on the Athletic app; I want to read it on The NY Times app—everything in one place, and I don’t have to switch back and forth. But I get constantly bombarded by prompts to download the Athletic app when I am trying to read on The NY Times app. Make it stop!

    A combination of auto renewal and no refund after being charged a much higher price (with no pro-active notification) and 14 days pass from “renewal date” I am now held hostage to this account until next year. The “don’t ask; don’t tell” business practice is out of touch with reality and they have lost this customer forever….and of course; they really don’t care

    I’ve subscribed to NYT for years. Now recently all the sports articles come from the Atlantic. And I can’t get access. Download Atlantic app and log in but can only see one or two articles then am blocked and says I have to subscribe to Atlantic. Messed up.
