  • Disappointing

I was very excited to receive a gift subscription and thought there would be many stories and all of the sports information that I was looking for, but I have been very disappointed by the content or should I say lack of content on the app. Everything is extremely focused on Premier league football with very few other sports covered in enough depth. We’re in the middle of the Australian open and there are not even any stories up yet on results from the matches today when half of them are over already. Even the guardian has articles in their sports section on the results already, but nothing on the Athletic yet. Definitely not worth the monthly fee for this content.
  • Lazy Coverage

The Athletic used to be about sports writing, but focus is shifting materially to lazier forms - podcasts and video - and my feed is getting crowded with mediums I don’t want to see. They also don’t have writers assigned to all teams (e.g., Las Vegas Raiders) so a subscription is a gamble as to whether your favorite team(s) has real coverage. I canceled my subscription as I can get better coverage (and writing) on teams of interest from targeted sources.
  • No Raiders Beat Report

I use this app to get raiders information and no one has been writing about the raiders since the beat reporters left. Ive received no replies to my outreach inquiring about when a reporter might join the team. I will not renew my subscription.
  • Horribly Woke

They interject woke politics into everything. Pathetic rag.
  • Ads

I presumed the value of a subscription to the athletic would be no ads… alas, annoying ads as I scroll my articles. Often resulting in accidental redirects. It was the very thing that pushed me away from ESPN. Your strategy should be to differentiate from the mother ship, not succumb.
  • Trash comment section

The comments section is a haven for outright racist trolls and nothing ever happens to them. Absolute worst people in the world in their.

Can’t believe how many annoying ads for the amount you pay
  • No way to disable videos

Even though I have a paid subscription, they do not give me ability prevent videos from auto playing. I find the videos annoying & distracting but am forced to let them play - even though I AM PAYING for the content in app. I call that very poor customer service

I have a NY Times subscription. It’s always pushing this app. I'm not impressed. Of course my view don't matter.
