  • Fallen off from the start.

I liked the app when it was first started but man have they screwed the people that started with them. The LV Raiders had 4 beat writers when this site started now they have none. In the middle of the NFL season! If it was the 49ers, they would have moved heaven and earth to make sure they had coverage. I paid for this site specifically for good Raiders coverage but will not be renewing after my annual expires.
  • Good content, poor app

Highlights: Excellent writers. Lowlights: Pretty well the whole app. Especially the ability to write and post comments, and the algorithm (if there is one) that re-promoted already read articles.

I wanted to share a couple of observations. First, as a blind person who uses a screen reader, I’d like a more consistent approach in terms of how teams are referenced. In the four major US men’s leagues, NFL, MLB, NHL and NBA, when a game alert comes out for the start of the contest, you use the team names, but for the final score, you use an abbreviation to represent the team by its home city. So tonights Blues Vs. Blackhawks game says Blues at Blackhawks for the starting alert, but the final will be sent at as STL at CHC. Personally, from an accessibility viewpoint and use of a screen reader, team names work better. IN the college arena where many teams have similar nicknames, the Utah State, New Mexico State and Texas A&M Aggies for example, use the name of the school for the alert. My second observation is that the search feature for teams needs to be improved. Some MLS teams do not have more than their city written for the search find, Austin and San Diego are examples. The search screen also pulls up every single team in the database, please for the love of time and efficiency, allow the user to at least select the league from which they are wanting to set up various team alerts, such as MLB or NCAA Football. Thank you for your time.

This used to be a great sports website. It’s gone massively downhill the last few years. Fired most of the staff, lower quality from whats left. Comments section often turns into political arguments. Pay a premium price for a regular product at best with ads? I’ll pass, time to move on.

Such a smooth experience on mobile with stories and videos, unlike the MLB app which is an abomination.

Started out as a place to get rid of adds and read and listen to actual sports news. Let Journalists be Journalists not sales reps. Now it’s just another place to pay for the privilege of being advertised to.

I love the content from The Athletic and appreciate the new updates to the app. However, I’ve encountered an issue with the iPad version: I can't change the Home Screen app logo style. The changes don’t save or take effect after selection. I hope this isn’t an issue with my iPad, as I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app several times and ensured it is up-to-date. Also, the sport/league/team news and article notifications are great, but I would love to see those expanded upon. I would love more customizable, live, in-game notifications for my favorite teams.
