  • Safari integration is terrible

I’ve used 1Password for many years, and still can’t bring myself to switch away. The Safari integration is incredibly frustrating, especially if you use Safari profiles. Several times a day I have to tell the extension to reconnect to the app. Folks have been reporting these issues for well over a year, and they haven’t been resolved.
  • Love 1Password but this bites…

There are seemingly endless issues with this Safari integration. Doesn’t open many times. Sometimes opens under the Safari password helper so you can’t access it. Passkeys almost never work properly. Please fix this.
  • Terrible integration on Mac

My family uses 1Password so that we can share passwords across both apple and PC devices. That’s the entire reason we chose this app. But the integration in Mac is regularly breaking down — at least once a day I have to put in my master password even though it’s set to be once every two weeks. The Apple Watch sign-in feature on Mac works approximately once every few weeks and the rest of the time I have to type in my password anyway. In Safari, sometimes it will prompt me to log in and then fill my passwords for me, but especially lately the vast majority of the time I have to open the 1Password app, type in my master password, search for the correct login, copy the username and copy the password. This defeats about 80% of the purpose of this app. It’s so frustrating. I’ve gone in and done hack-like fixes to get the watch integration working, but I shouldn’t have to do that every few days. I might just have to switch password managers because this is actually worse than just using a little paper notebook.

  • Long for the days of 1PW 7

In 1PW7 everything used to just work. This extension doesn’t work at all, has not since Safari 18.4, and still no fixes. For so many years 1password through version 7 was so good. Version 8 is (still) terrible, if there was something better to switch to I would.
  • Safari Extension Usually Doesn’t Work

The extension frequently fails to autofill, asks for password multiple times, asks you to open the main app, and has multiple other bugs. This is not really a viable password manager for Safari. There are many other options. It’s too bad because 1Password works well on the iPhone and has a polished main app. It just doesn’t reliably fill passwords in Safari, and instead forces the user to spend time trouble shooting, before giving up and just manually cutting and pasting from the main app. Apple should seriously consider removing this extension from the store.
  • Completely Broken

I am a longtime 1Password user and each version is more broken than the last. 1Password 8 does not work reliably with Safari. In other words, 1Password has failed to make sure the app has the basic functionality people buy the app for… to easily enter usernames and passwords on websites . It was a great app, and for what they charge for the app, I would expect some actual support. I also am growing more concerned that if they can’t make it work with Safari, or can’t make the effort to squash the bugs, how safe is my password data they are storing. If you are not currently using 1Password, I would suggest sticking with the free Passwords app on your Mac… it has fewer features than 1Password, but it is free and it actually works.
  • Saved by autofill

    1) The app itself has a nice UX, and apart from the occasional bug, works well. 5 stars. 2) The extension works smoothly half the time and the other half you have to either restart Safari or refresh the page several times for it to kick in. 2 stars. However, Autofill saves the experience because it fills in credentials even when the extension fails and works across multiple apps, not just Safari. 4 stars. PS. Two bugs I hope get fixed: * 1Password sometimes fails to offer to use a passkey. * Autofill can only link one credential to an app e.g., after I use autofill on Cryptomator, 1Pass will ask me if I want to link that credential to the app. If I say yes, next time I use Autofill on Cryptomator, it will use the same credential I used before, but I want to use another one! I wish it was possible to manually link multiple credentials to a specific app through the 1Pass UI.
  • Unreliable and Endlessly Frustrating

The extension frequently loses its connection to the main app, resulting in all sorts of synchronization issues, complete failures, or other odd behavior. The reviews here are overwhelming 1 star reviews and have been for a very long time, yet this still hasn’t been addressed. Either the developers are incapable of producing reliable software or the company just doesn’t care about supporting Safari.

It has literally done the opposite of what it should since updating. Do yourself a favor and stick to the old version till they change this.
