Does not work with the latest Mac updates - it doesn’t even register as an available browser extension

  • Garbage

1Password used to be one of the best Mac apps. Now it’s horrible. It doesn’t work well anymore. It rarely fills things in consistently, crashes frequently, and rarely saves logins. Really frustrating to use. I wish the team cared about their Mac app like they used to.
  • It’s Become Buggy

I’ve used 1Password since 2011, and I regret that it’s gone downhill in the past few years. In Safari, passkey functionality rarely permits Touch ID (I have to use my phone and scan a QR code), and for the past ~three months, every single time I use 1Password to authenticate, the next screen has a dialog box that admonishes me that I should have used 1Password to complete the password. I can see bugs like this in a single release. (A company with $400M in annual revenue should absolutely not be making mistakes like that. But I can see it.) But persisting for months? No, that’s no good. If they don’t get this sorted out soon, I’ll switch to macOS’s much-improved password functionality. It’s been a good run.
  • memory usage is high?

My safari has been using a lot of memory recently and causing system suspending all apps. I checked activity monitor and it showed that 1password extension used up nearly 30GiB of memory which is a LOT even in these days when apps routinely use hundreds of megabytes. Aside from the memory issue, the integration is rather clunky, for example it displays two suggestions boxes, one from safari and the other from 1password extension, one on top of the other.. Hardly a premium experience. With recent Apple Passwords release it becomes harder to justify paying for 1Password.
  • security holes; now 9/17 does not work

2025-1126 for the last two weeks, 1P will not work with many sites such at NY Times, insurance companies etc. Might go back to paper and pencil as that is way to get login and passwords to all the sites that 1P no longer works on. Shame on Agilbits and Electron. 2025-0917 v8.11.9 no longer works with NY Times that I had been able to login for since 1P2. I will NOT “”alway allow for every website” per Agilbits instructions. That’s is not freedom of choice in the U.S. As Canadians, you don’t have the right to take away our freedoms. This 1P8safari plugin/extension has always been a pain along with 1P8. I feel more and more that Agilebits NO longer cares. So, I will look elsewhere but until I can change, don’t plan on getting quick access to your accounts. Back to the previous decades of copy and paste. \*)(*/ "upgraded" to 1Password 8 a couple of weeks ago. Now, with Safari, after I clear history, a new window opens with the The 1Password extension needed to restart, followed by a new tab to Welcome. Let’s get the browser extension ready. I have clicked that Continue button many times, did whatever was asked and it still continues to pop these windows/tabs open again and again again again again again again. Regardless that 1Password 8 is running. After frustratingly tried to contact 1P and log in to the forum, somehow I was able to email with 1P Support. The response was not to Clear History, but hold down the option button and the Clear History selection changes to "Clear history but keep website data". So, those two pop ups "The 1Password extension needed to restart, followed by a new tab to Welcome" do not pop up. However, keeping all the website date is INsecure with all companies stating they're not responsible for third-party cookies and other rif raf. Previous versions of 1Password did not have this nonsence. 1Password developers or whatever ghost developers ought to fix this security hole. Should have stayed with 1Password 7. I asked about downgrading but Support said not to and thus would not provide any instructions.
  • Frequently fails to work

The Safari plug-in frequently fails to work with the main app. Requires log-ins more often than established in settings; authorizations consistently reset after changing profiles or when screensavers activate (even if settings establish different requirements). Reinstallation of app and plug-in almost never fixes the consistent problems with 1Pass since v8 began. My advice: consider alternatives (or Apple Passwords) before you pay a yearly subscription for an app that works inconsistently
  • Hardly Works...

The 1Password extension for safari breaks all the time. It’s inconsistent - I get double prompted to authenticate (whether done via the Safari top toolbar 1P icon, or when clicking on the small 1P icon in a user/password field). Even after entering my password in the regular 1P app for Mac, or within the browser, the extension will just not activate. The only fix is to re-install the extension, but even though, the fix doesn’t last long.

Nothing like spending a lot of time to figure out how to get it to work on Safari! I’m going to ask for my money back if it doesn’t get fixed. Choose something else.
