Description

Voice Dream Reader lets you listen to PDF documents, Web articles, and eBooks using text-to-speech. Although it is designed for people with visual impairment, dyslexia, ADHD, and other reading challenges, everyone can benefit. Your documents become audiobooks, so you can read while you walk, exercise or do chores. For productivity-minded people, with some practice, you can read at twice your sight-reading speed. Unlike audiobooks, you can highlight, take notes, and see the words as they're spoken to improve comprehension and retention. Voice Dream Reader for iOS is a 2021 Apple Design Award Winner, and it's been featured by Apple as Best New App and App of the Day in 81 countries. Using the award-winning iOS app as building blocks, we wrote Voice Dream Reader Desktop from ground up as a native macOS app with a completely redesigned user interface. The result is a full-featured, desktop-class application fully optimized for the Mac. ACCOLADES "Both experts recommend Voice Dream Reader as the best app in the text-to-speech space." - Wired “This app is one of the best educational finds of my entire career.” - Forbes “As a user myself and as a mother of a child with dyslexia, I am blown away by the features of Voice Dream.” - Quartz FEATURES Library - Manage all your reading material in one place. - Organize in folders. • I love Voice Dream

I think that Voice Dream is one of the best apps ever made. It is so feature rich, and it has allowed me to read so much, that I have 7 PhDs now.
  • I enjoyed the Mac version until...

I have quite enjoyed using the desktop/laptop version of Voice Dream Reader for a while now. However, it has become worse to use when every time I open the application on my laptop, it tells me that my subscription has expired. I have to go in an click on "Restore Purchase" because the app refuses to recognise I have a valid subscription. The same notification of purchasing a subscription pops up every time I open a file in Voice Dream Reader.
  • Not intuative

It reminds me of 80's era navigation platform. I'm leaving Speechify because their platform is the glitchiest most unstable platform I've ever encountrered. Literally worked as advertised 30% of the time, and I only use MS Word docs. But they do have a far more intuative navigation and better voices. These are robotic, but at least it functions once you figure it out. Even removing a file took too long to figure out.
  • Exploitation of Vulnerable and Underserved Communities

To charge such a high subscription rate for an app used primarly by those with special needs, learning disablities, visual impairment, and hearing impairment is an outrageous exploitation of vulnerable and underserved communities. This is unethical, infurating, and inexcusable. I will never be a customer, will never recommend this to my patients, or members of my underserved community. Deplorable!
  • Simple but excellent

This app doesn't have the bells and whistles that some more expensive text-to-speech apps have, and I'm sad there's no mobile app for Android, but Voice Dream Reader has the most natural and enjoyable sounding AI voices of any text-to-speech software at any price point. The Scottish voice Rhona is so pleasing to listen to, I love hearing anything read in that voice.
  • The worst - Can't be refunded!

Watch out! If you accidentally download this app and forget to cancel it, even if you have never used it, you will be denied a refund! That's right! They will automatically charge your account $50 and you cannot do anything about it! So ridiculous and a total scam! This doesn't even work for me and I don't want it at all, yet I'm FORCED to keep it and continue my "subscription" for a YEAR even though I've requested twice for a refund! Shame on you Apple and shame on you subpar app!
  • Bought it then they stole it

I paid for this app in 2019 and then when they switched to subscription model they just deleted me. Not cool at all.
  • Unstable, Sync Dosn't Work

I've used VoiceDream for years on my iPhone. But every-so-often, it becomes unstable and begins to crash. I've reinstalled it mulitple times. After some months, or a phone upgrade, it works again. Ths desktop version has never worked. I think the problem is in some way assisciatd with iCloud sync. This app is a great idea but for $50, it should be better. Please fix it so I can use it! I depend on this functionality!
  • Total Mess

I signed up for the plan to "trial" as they clealry make you do. I immediatley used the app, and was not happy with the quality of the voice, so I cancelled the same day as I started the trial. And guess what, they went a head and charged me anyway, with NO way to address this issue. So, be warned. they will charge you and you will be disappointed with the voice. Should have just stuck with the other app I have been using. A terrible experiece with every step of this app. they basically lied, ignored the cancellation, and took my money anyway. Be warned, it will happen to you too.
  • Excellent App - Extremely Poor Business Model

When a business professes to support the disabled community, I have to remind myself of the putting yourself in someone elses shoes terminology. In consideration of the paramount finacial struggles consistently spreading across the world, I baffles me that a company would place significant strain on individuals who have already provided monetairly for an application to only be told they are now requried to pay further for the application to work. Equally frustrating, although as a community our voices were heard, there is still not resolution to connect between the applications on a computer and phone as it still requires signing up for a subscription based service. Thankfully, the application is functioning atthis point in time on my phone, I do believe it to be only a matter of time before updates will no longer be supported and I am left serching for another means of attempting to read. With needing to continously have to choose between purchasing an application, monthly subscriptions, purchasing software, or needing to choose between a mac vs pc due to the software no longer being supported on my computer or phone of choice, I may be best suited in sacrificing the $2,000 dollars for the Orcam and going back to paper books.
