Description

Voice Dream Reader lets you listen to PDF documents, Web articles, and eBooks using text-to-speech. Although it is designed for people with visual impairment, dyslexia, ADHD, and other reading challenges, everyone can benefit. Your documents become audiobooks, so you can read while you walk, exercise or do chores. For productivity-minded people, with some practice, you can read at twice your sight-reading speed. Unlike audiobooks, you can highlight, take notes, and see the words as they're spoken to improve comprehension and retention. Voice Dream Reader for iOS is a 2021 Apple Design Award Winner, and it's been featured by Apple as Best New App and App of the Day in 81 countries. Using the award-winning iOS app as building blocks, we wrote Voice Dream Reader Desktop from ground up as a native macOS app with a completely redesigned user interface. The result is a full-featured, desktop-class application fully optimized for the Mac. ACCOLADES "Both experts recommend Voice Dream Reader as the best app in the text-to-speech space." - Wired “This app is one of the best educational finds of my entire career.” - Forbes “As a user myself and as a mother of a child with dyslexia, I am blown away by the features of Voice Dream.” - Quartz FEATURES Library - Manage all your reading material in one place. - Organize in folders. Voice dream has been my go to App since It first came out I purchased every single voice that was in English and absolutely love this app. I am a lifetime member and the Owner saved my butt allowing lifetime membership. I can’t thank him enough for providing an app that helps auditory learners to still be productive. Buy this app its the best on the market I’ve tried them all.
  • Voice downloads do not work

This used to be a decent app for reading aloud, but lately, whenever I try to download a voice within the app now, it says “Failed to download file”. There’s no indication of the URL it was trying to download from nor is there any more specific error message. No support is offered on the product web site, even though I purchased a subscription! A Google search for [support site:voicedreamreader.com] returns “Your search - support site:voicedreamreader.com - did not match any documents”.

I am grad student recently diagnosed with adhd. Being able to listen to my course readings while doing other tasks (laundry, walking, etc), has been a game changer for me. I also love the feature that allows me to read along to the voice, especially for more challenging topics. Grateful that this service exists. Thank you!

In September ’24 I went looking for a text-to-speech solution, and came across Voice Dream Reader. I struggled with getting it configured for my desktop (I’ve been a digital product manager for 15 years), and finally gave up when I found myself in a closed loop of trying to get the app to verify my purchase and activate my subscription. By all intents and purposes, my purchase did not appear to have gone through. I moved on to another solution. Fast forward to January ’25, when I discovered that, in fact, the subscription purchase DID go through, and the application STILL does not recognize my subscription (app startup screen: “Already have an account?”). A terrible—and apparently broken—onboarding workflow... at least for me. I’d steer clear. There are a lot of other good solutions out there.

There are some disturbances with some of the readings and require restarting the program for the clarity to be restored.

To use the app, you need to subscribe, which feels like going to the bank and applying for credit. I already purchased this app on my iPad, but now I’m being asked to subscribe again to use it on my Mac—essentially paying twice. There’s no real flexibility for users.
