  • 👎 Poor Zoom Usability

Halide only allows rigid zoom steps (0.5× / 1× / 2× / 5×). A pro App should offer smooth zoom control for precise framing, even when staying within optical limits. A simple preview-only zoom dial (no digital interpolation, no quality loss) would greatly improve usability. This feels like a design choice, not a limitation. Great photos, frustrating experience.
  • Annoying

The exposure slide on the right and what you see is not correct. You’ll take a photo at flat 0.0, RAW, and then when it saves it, it’s either super blown out or super dark. I’ve tested in similar shots and it’s a coin flip on which way it automatically processes.
  • Refreshingly simple

I like to use a camera. I like to figure out how to use it, with the light I have in front of me, to make art. iPhone camera app? Incredibly lifelike and functional photos in an instant. Document and move on. Halide is like having a high end digicam on you. To really get to know the lens. With a little adjustment you can barely tell it was taken on an iPhone. Apple algorithm, I can spot that look from 5 aisles back. Lifetime price is a good deal, for how long I’ll be using this app. Excited to see what other pro camera functions get ported over eventually.
  • Wish images saved in background

I love Halide because of the Zero Process option. I really don’t like the Apple’s computational photography since the iPhone 11, so the Zero Process is a good return to what photos should look like I just wish images saved in the background when the app is closed. Sometimes I’ll snap a picture of something and close the app, but then I won’t see it a few hours or days later in my photos app because Halide requires time to save photos while the app is open. This makes looking back on photos chronologically not great because the pictures don’t have the proper time they were taken. I don’t know if this problem extends to the location metadata too only being saved upon reopening the app
  • Costs $60 tp run

Not advertised but the app costs $60 to use. I needed to download with the intent of shooting RAW photos compatible with Adobe Lightroom’s “denoise” feature since I have the iPhone 17pro and can shoot in raw anyways, I just needed this extra feature. The actual features of this app are nothing you can’t accomplish in post editing, it’s just more of a hassle to open up the camera.
  • Halide, where have you been all my life?

I’ve wasted so much time and so many opportunities without Halide. While I can’t go back and recapture those photos, I can leave this review here. The most valuable 2 features for me, worth the app’s cost alone, are not even really marketed on the site: focus peaking and leveling tool. Game changer! Thanks Halide team.

    Totally Unbelievable
  • Unusable on iPhone 17 Pro Max

Hate to give one star to this app. It has a potential, but unfortunately my palm is touching that side button and adjusting the exposure compensation randomly. I couldn't find how to disable that button.
  • Amazing. Two interactive requests.

    1. Allow me to set the lens display to read the mm for the lenses, rather than the 1x or 2x. 2. Allow me to use the new camera button swiping as a focus ring.

Love the app but I was immediately charged 19.99 even though it says I'm on a free trial until December 10th. i don't know if I'll be charged again after the "free trial" ends...
