i've been using simplenote for about 7-8 years now, and i will recommend it to anyone who asks for a simple notetaking app. this is the perfect supplement to bigger notetaking systems (notion, google docs, evernote, etc.); i basically use it like i would a bunch of post-it notes. it's super great that you can organize notes by type using the tag systems—makes it really easy to save important things & differentiate notes that are recurring or occasional. can access notes on any device (without having to pay), and it's been really reliable for me. another thing i want to shout out is the team. years ago, i was typing something in korean, and for some reason, the letters wouldn't type correctly (some sort of bug, it seemed). i emailed the team and got a personalized response right away (i forgot to respond years ago, oops, but thanks if any devs from then are reading this!!), and they had fixed it really quickly. it definitely gave me an even more positive opinion of the app. in any case: simplenote is perfect for what it does! big, big fan. i never write reviews, but i really do love this product.

Hate any app that requires me to “signup” at some random web site to use it on my Mac. If I wanted an account on some random web site, I’d be looking for online note apps, not Mac apps. I OFTEN need notes when my internet connection is down or absent.. having to “Sign up” just makes me think this app fails entirely without a ‘net connection.
  • useless markdown

Markup is the most unnecessary, useless, and featureless mark up language. The name is even stupid. It's a mark up language so they call it , wait! I KNOW markDOWN! wow clever. It does nothing that HTML doesn't do better. I have no desire to learn another markup language. If that's all you're providing in your app... DELETE

First: Simplenote is simple. No frills. No complications. No maze of preferences and settings. Second: Simplenote is reliable. I've never had a data loss. Third: Simplenote syncs to all my devices within seconds. I often use it just to transfer information from one device to another.
  • There is no easier way to make a note than not making one at all.

I first installed the app from the official site, then from the Appstore, changed my browser, downloaded on my smartphone. Registration doesn't work at all, and I say this with complete confidence, I sent an email to the post office for three days. The second day I used my other two emails, no use at all. I ended up needing the temp mail site to register and come to the first conclusion: 1. Registration is already extremely difficult, and you don't have that option unless you get to the point of using temp mail. I really lost a lot of time, so 2 stars. About the app itself. 2. The app is intuitive 3. it's simple and minimalistic. 4. it has the ability to make markdowns 5. Cross-platform, macOS & Linux Android & iOS 6. No annoying ads I would give 5 stars if the registration worked fine, but the first impression is just awful.

My wife and I use this app mainly as our grocery list. When we need something from thee store,we put it on the Simplenote list and when either of us go shopping, the list is updated.
  • Importing doesn't work

Tried to import notes from Evernote and experienced numerous issues. Some notes just were imported as URL's; others were duplicated 4 times; and others failed to import at all.

This app has always worked flawlessly until very recently. Now It will not open, or if it does, there's some sort of memory loop because it hangs and beach-balls.

Simple, reliable, plain text note syncing between MacOS and iOS. Have used for years and it has never failed me. If you want simple plain text sync across all your devices, you can't do better than this.
