just downloaded and logged in to my account and now i’m met with an endless grey loading screen

This app used to be good and now it is genuinely unusable. Half the time it loads infinitely and you can’t even access the app. When it does work, it feeds you into the main course for true-beginners and makes it hard as hell to navigate to community lists or anything that’s helpful for non-beginners.

So excited to have found a place to learn European Portuguese! I really like the repetition, the selection and being able to listen and watch how the locals pronounce words and phrases.

I used to speak French conversationally and went many years without practicing. I’ve been trying to practice again, but I’ve found frustration with other language learning apps because they force me through lessons of things I already know because I have some gaps in vocabulary. Memrise has stood out to me because I can pick and choose which words and concepts I need to work on. I also like the opportunities to practice conversation with the AI and get corrected in-the-moment. These benefits pushed me to get the Pro version, which I’ve enjoyed using overall. As an experienced language learner in French, there are a few downsides to Memrise. The AI frequently misspells conjugations and does not always get the gender correct of certain words. For example, I did a lesson using the word, “chiner” and it told me “chiner” is conjugated as “We like to bargain hunt” as “nous chineons” which is technically incorrect; it uses imperative tense, which is more directly translated as “we used to go bargain hunting.” The AI apologies for its mistakes, but if you are a novel language learner, these are things you might not pick up on. Additionally, I think the app could be better by adding a French-to-English translation option in Review mode as well as have scenarios that focus on grammar principles rather than relying on the AI bot to teach them (for the above reasons). All in all, Memrise is a great learning and practicing resource to help increase exposure to a foreign language. But it should not be the only resource you use, especially if you are a novel language learner, or else you could possibly learn and reinforce errors along the way.

The developer of this app consistently ignores user complaints and feedback. A few months ago, the previous version of the user interface was significantly more pleasant, intuitive, and functional. Despite numerous user objections, the developer forced a new interface that is clearly inferior and, on top of that, removed the ability to study offline. This decision alone made the app noticeably worse. Even after multiple updates following the interface change, the main issues remain unresolved and continue to be ignored. First, it has been repeatedly reported that the selected difficulty level does not matter at all. Regardless of whether you choose an advanced level, including C2, the app still sends extremely basic vocabulary, more suitable for complete beginners. Receiving A1-level words while using a C2 setting makes the entire leveling system pointless. Second, the video content with native speakers is severely broken. The app repeatedly delivers the exact same video day after day. Even after marking the video as fully understood and completed, the next day the same video appears again, as if no other content exists. This happens constantly and makes the feature useless. The same flawed logic applies to vocabulary learning. For example, the app claims to offer five new words per day. If it shows three words and you mark two as already known and one as unknown, instead of completing the lesson with additional new words, the app endlessly repeats that single unknown word over and over again. There is no attempt to balance or structure the lesson properly. Overall, the app has significantly degraded in quality and usability. What was once a functional and enjoyable learning tool now feels poorly designed and neglected. If the developer continues to ignore real user problems and feedback, it should come as no surprise when users choose competitor apps instead of this one. Приложение изо дня в день присылает одно и то же видео. Даже после того, как отметить видео как полностью понятное и пройденное, на следующий день появляется ровно то же самое видео, будто другого контента просто не существует. Это происходит постоянно и делает функцию бесполезной. Та же ошибочная логика применяется и при изучении слов. Например, приложение заявляет, что предлагает пять новых слов в день. Если оно показывает три слова и вы отмечаете два как уже знакомые, а одно как незнакомое, вместо того чтобы дополнить урок новыми словами, приложение начинает бесконечно повторять это одно незнакомое слово снова и снова. Никакой попытки сбалансировать или нормально структурировать урок не предпринимается. В целом, приложение заметно деградировало с точки зрения качества и удобства использования. То, что раньше было функциональным и приятным инструментом для обучения, теперь выглядит плохо продуманным и заброшенным. Если разработчик продолжит игнорировать реальные проблемы и отзывы пользователей, не стоит удивляться тому, что пользователи выбирают приложения конкурентов, а не это.

This app is amazing, but I often forget to do my lessons. I’ve used other learning apps before, and the way I consistently do my lessons are through widgets, so it might be a thing to consider?

Memrise is good it’s just I can’t review all the time when i want to and i don’t wanna pay to do that also i’m like 11 so I can’t really and i know it’s dumb but still it would be tougher to learn Italian with like 4 free reviews.
