Description

The Unarchiver is a small and easy to use program that can unarchive many different kinds of archive files. It will open common formats such as Zip, RAR (including v5), 7-zip, Tar, Gzip and Bzip2. It will also open many older formats, such as StuffIt, DiskDoubler, LZH, ARJ and ARC. It will even open other kinds of files, like ISO and BIN disc images, some Windows .EXE installers. The list is actually much longer - see the program homepage for the full list. The Unarchiver also tries to detect and correctly handle the filename encoding in the archives it opens, allowing you to open files from every part of the world without getting garbled filenames. The Unarchiver aims to be the only unarchiving program you will ever need, and to stay out of your way. Also, if you need to open archives on your iPad or iPhone, look for "Archives" on the App Store, or go to https://theunarchiver.com/archives. It is based on The Unarchiver, and lets you easily handle Archives on iOS!

No longer using due to ads. Make a paid version if that’s what you need to do but to inject ads into the app is not welcome by me. Thank you.
  • Such a great app, sadly has become adware.

Sorry guys but if you’re gonna put ads, can you at least give me the option to pay to remove them? This app should be almost invisible, that’s the beauty of it. It’s not cool to mess up the whole workflow so you can put ads.
  • Nice app, but doesn’t support Brotli, zStandard

I’ve been using this app for a long, long time. One thing I wish it had was Brotli (.br) and zStandard (.zstd) support.
  • forces file associations

Forces archive file associations to use. One setup it presents a list of checkboxes for waht files you want it to associate with. But, trying to uncheck any of them just results in a popup telling you how to change them later in macos. It also defaults to sending analytics info back without asking. Just absolutely obnoxious.
  • Does the job, but now has banner ads.

“Free and always will be” is great but not having any way to remove banner ads is not cool. Even if they’re for other MacPaw products, it shows that they’re going down the same tired old road so many others went. It’s always ads, and we, the users, are tired of it. Even Stuffit Expander didn’t go that road.
  • How to destroy an app

1 word ads seriously was a great app until developer or corporate backers choose to add ads and disable the feature that previously allowed the app to close when it’s task was done now because they feel they are entitled to an un end amount of ad revenue they forced me to delete a once good app killed by greed. Well done
  • Welp, it has ads now

Used for many many years, now they added ads. Too bad, was simple and worked fine. I get the need for revenue, but stopping any meaningful updates and adding ads without any (paid!) way to disable them means this is getting deleted.
  • Spyware

Look how they have to hire people to write positive reviews, and even those people aren’t good at it. “good”. Can’t even pay them enough to write a review. This used to be a great app, and now MacPaw has turned it into spyware and adware for their other spyware and adware apps. Basically a trash company making trash apps and scamming people out of money.

This app refuses to open .rar, even after walking me through the alternate method that is supposed to make it work it still gives the same error message that it refuses to open the file. The one reason I have this app wasting space on my laptop and it doesn’t work
