  • Good, but Text-to-speech Underwhelming

I’ve been using app for many years, and I really enjoy it. I was excited to try out the text to speech feature so I upgraded to pro. But I was quite underwhelmed as it is not the current Siri voice, but a very dated digitized sound that is not enjoyable to listen to. Hope the developers update this soon!

  • New premium too expensive, sadly

I love Instapaper and have used it for several years. However, I find the price for the new subscription premium really out of proportion for what seems like a relatively simple app. I would be very happy to pay another five or $10 one-off to upgrade my premium, or maybe $1 a month, if you can’t exist without subscription model. I only really need premium for full text search and no note limit. should these pretty basic functions really cost $6 a month? I would expect that the majority of users would feel the same way. I feel this has become a luxury app only for people with high incomes, which seems a shame. Surely if it was cheaper, you could get a lot more people contributing.
  • Mostly love, but some minor things

I’m a long time user and I love the simplicity as well as the latest features. Still, I mostly listen to articles and I’m getting tired of sharing them from Instapaper to Speechify so I can hear them from a high quality automated voice. Instapaper’s low quality speech feature is a non-starter for me and now, with many publishers featuring high quality AI voices, I find myself clicking back to original articles to listen which also defeats the purpose of IP. One last thing: I don’t know if there is an upgrade to Instapaper Save on MacOS. On Sequoia, I haven’t been able to save to particular IP folders. Thanks, in advance, for your attentiveness and dedication to an overall great product!

  • no tables !

I really like Instapaper, it makes digesting long articles a lot easier and you can do it straight from the web. Their interface is a little more user friendly compared to the original websites though. I can't seem to highlight singular words on websites themselves, but it works fine in their interface. Also, please add compatibility for tables and charts! Images work great but tables get really messed up.
  • The best read later app of all time

I’ve been using this on and off for over a decade. Yeah, Pocket caught my eye and I was on it for a bit but I am back to Instapaper for good because it’s simply better. It focuses on what the user needs, not what can make the company money. Pocket harvests your data and makes you pay for text while showing you ads. Instapaper simply lets you save what YOU want to read later. It doesn’t tell you what to read. Doesn’t have a need to try to entice you into staying on the app in hopes you read a suggested article so they get a cut of the ad money. Their premium features are very few but worth it if you like them and they don’t nag you to upgrade. If Mozilla really cared about user privacy like they claim they’d have integrated this app into their browser rather than the other one which may look slick but doesn’t offer much. Speaking of looks, the minimal design of Instapaper is everything you need in this app. No need to complicate it any further. I love this and always will.
  • Summaries Broken

Summaries are apparently disabled on random publications. Annoying.

I had been long considering switching to a different read-it-later app when I discovered this one and after seeing the interface and features, I was ready to jump ship from my old app. However, a huge downside for me was discovering that a feature as simple as notes (which in this app includes basic highlighting) is locked behind a paywall and you only get 5 free per MONTH, which I promptly used up in half of my first article. Unfortunately highlighting is one of the main reasons I use apps like this, so I will have to stick with my current app. To be fair it is a beautifully made app and it works well. I would have been happy to pay for more advanced features to support the devs, but this is the only app like this that I have tried that charges for highlighting text, which is a dealbreaker.
