Simply the best. It has so many features and works seamlessly between different operating systems. This is my favorite tool in my arsenal. Extremely, inexpensive. I hope this suite eventually eclipses Adobe.

Well, until I completely relearn the software, I guess the UIX is going to feel clunky. I was looking forward to moving from Windows based to tablet based to be fairly easy and similar. (Given that Affinity did a pretty good job of developing Photo, Designer and Publisher for Windows. But having to completely relearn tools, how they work and where they are? Mmmmmm….? Didn’t have to do that with Infinite Painter. Made the switch, & just kept on going.

The fact that a single file type will work on Mac, PC, AND iPad blows my mind. I also LOVE the fact that basic Pixel (aka Photoshop) mode is included with Designer. AND NO EXPLOITATIVE SUBSCRIPTION MODEL. The value of the bundle across all platforms is WILD. You do not need adobe, swear to god! I love Affinity!!!
  • Good but unreliable

I believe the original version came out in 2018 when I bought my first iPad Pro it was perfect timing! I think they should’ve kept the original version and upgraded it and charge a fee for that instead of creating a whole new app. With the new version I was forced to move all of my files to the new app which was a hassle because there was a lot. I think it was pretty deceptive to create a new app and charge a fee when you claim to be a non-subscription base app. I understand that it cost money to create and maintain this program and therefore understand subscription fees. I would rather pay a subscription fee to get some reliability than to put all my eggs in one basket on a company that’s struggling. But I’m grateful for this program, it’s how I learned vector because they made it easy vs adobe. But it might be time to move on to something more reliable and stop putting my eggs in this basket to avoid any future regret.🤔

Whenever I draw a line, sometimes parts of it, or the whole thing, will just disappear, and other times when i draw a line, the next line I draw will show up, but the last one just goes away, and this gets me mad sometimes, also, I wish some things would be a little simpler…took me like 30 minutes to figure out how undo and redo. The line problem happens very often to me also. But, I like the app, and its overall pretty nice.
  • Truly Unacceptable Issues

I have used Affinity Designer for iPad for more and more of my design work since 2018. Now, it (and the other Affinity apps) constitutes about 99% of my design workflow. Unfortunately, I have been running into more and more issues lately, and it’s driving me insane. • First of all, having a file open and active for a while, or dragging and dropping an image into a file will make it impossible to save that file. In the case of drag and drop, the save spinner will just go on indefinitely until the app is closed, losing any progress since the previous save, including the image place. When a file has been active for a while, saving will appear to succeed, but will secretly fail. This means that if you close the app or it gets backgrounded, you will surprise lose an unknown amount of progress, even if you *just* saved. • Secondly, exporting is unreliable. An issue that I’m running into across the entire Affinity suite on iPad is that exporting “selection only” will sometimes include a massive amount of empty space. A 1008x660 image in particular that I’m trying to export is *always* saving out at over 16,000x10000px, with almost all of that space just being completely empty. The selection really is only 1008px wide and 660px tall, but instead it tries to save out this massive PNG with a ton of empty space. Every. Time. • There are a lot of minor annoyances too that come with using a keyboard and trackpad, something supported in iPadOS long before Designer 2 was released. Clicking on certain UI elements with a pointer — such as the align button — will only work once, with subsequent clicks doing nothing at all, requiring taps until some amount of time has passed, at which point you can only click once again. Trying to type a number with the keyboard in any field that would cause the mini number picker to come up (rotation angles, for instance) will input “(null)” instead of “.” When trying to type in a decimal, forcing you to backspace, then use the onscreen input to type your decimal. • You can export color palettes (as .afpalette) for use on desktop Affinity, but exported color palettes from desktop Affinity (saved as .clr) cannot be used on the iPad version. • I love Affinity’s apps, and I especially love not being subject to Adobe’s predatory monthly subscription and surprise AI “features”, but these issues with Affinity for iPad are frankly ridiculous, and I can’t believe professional design software is shipping with these glaring flaws. I am incredibly disappointed with the nosedive in functionality that has been happening and I hope a bugfix is in the works, because this is seriously disrupting my workflow every single day and it’s driving me crazy. Normally I would instantly recommend Affinity to any Adobe user, but it’s getting torturous to continue using Affinity. Please for the love of god fix this app.
  • Battery drain after iPadOS 18

Great app! Great developer! After testing Affinity Photo and Designer, I bought a universal license. However, after announcing sale to Canva - I feel like updates have been Less than usual. Now with iOS 18, the app is causing major battery drain. Please release a quick update for best compatibility with OS-18 thanks mate! Cheers 🍻
