Description

Noir is a Safari extension that automatically adds a dark mode to every website you visit. It makes browsing the web at night so much better. With Noir, you won’t be blinded by bright websites ever again. And the results look great too. Noir generates a custom dark style for each website you visit, based on the colors that are used on a page. You won’t even notice this happening in the background – that’s how fast it is – but you’ll certainly appreciate the end result: a beautiful dark mode tailored for each website, where contrast is preserved and highlights still pop. And with over 20 built-in themes and the ability to create your own, you can customize the results exactly the way you want. Noir works with any website you visit in Safari, automatically. By default, Noir is linked to your device’s Dark Mode, so websites will only go dark when you want them to. But you can easily customize this to your liking, even per website. Only want to use Noir on just a few specific websites? Sure thing! Disable Noir on some websites? No problem! The app feels right at home on your device. It is a Safari extension, which means there’s no need to manually activate it every time you load a new page. The app also tightly integrates with system features such as Shortcuts, Focus Filters, and Widgets to fully integrate Noir in all your workflows. And your settings are automatically synced to all your devices using iCloud. And just as importantly, Noir takes your privacy seriously: it doesn’t collect any of your browsing data. Period. Noir is made by an indie developer. It does not include any subscriptions or ads. Buy Noir once, use it forever. Notes: • Found a website where Noir’s dark mode doesn’t look just right? Let me know by reporting it. The app will be frequently updated to address issues that are reported. Privacy Policy: • The Noir extension requires access to the websites you visit to analyze the existing style of the page and to override it with Noir's dark style. • Noir never collects your browsing data. The only data Noir ‘collects’ are your settings, and those will never leave your device or iCloud account. • You can read Noir’s full Privacy Policy at https://getnoir.app/privacypolicy

It does exactly what it says on the tin. The developers are very responsive with feedback and issues. I use Noir on all of my Macs, iPads and iPhone. There’s even a plugin for web apps…

Darkens website if it’s already in dark mode and does not darken if its in light mode. Not sure what is going on but detection for this app does not work properly at all. I’ve used the default settings as well attempting to fiddle around with given options to try and make it work but it just never seems to correctly detect and darken appropriately.

If you pay attention to this extension, it will read every web page you are on if you enable it.

What you don’t learn until AFTER you buy is this: “This Extension can read sensitive information from webpages including passwords and credit cards” REALLY? I have removed it from my Mac
  • Very (Painfully) Slow

Looks good, but really slows down the time to render. Using google apps it’s painfully slow…enough to make one wonder if Safari is crashing…and then the page gets rendered. Might be ok if it just happens on initial load, but it occurs any time you switch tabs. I’ve stopped using.

Reached out to Dev (Jeff) to report a broken site in our internal ticketing system. Jeff responded letting me know he’s found a fix and it will be available in the next release. Great customer support, highly recommend supporting devs like him.

I have been using this extension for less than a year. This is the first web browser extension I pay for ever - and I am old. It was working well until perhaps the last major OS upgrade. I did a fresh macOS install and it still felt slower but functional. Fast forward to now and I had to finally disable it. Not only is it slow it also breaks websites where nothing clicks. Refreshing pages or restarting the browser does not fix the issue once it happens. Very disappointing.
  • Cannot run on macOS 26.1

Always : Could not connect to the Noir Extension. The Noir menu was not able to communicate with the Noir Extension. Please try closing Safari from the multitasking menu and try again. But I have followed the prompts, and I have also deleted and reinstalled Noir. I have also restarted my computer!
  • The Best Dark Reader

I’ve tried several apps to convert Safari to night mode - this one is by far the best. None of them work perfectly all of the time, including this one, but Noir is far more reliable and capable than any of the others - it works properly most of the time on most web sites and when adjustment is needed, it’s easier to tweak and does a better job correcting errors than any other app I’ve tried. This is the one to get.
