  • Nagware

I foolishly upgraded to “Pro” version only to find incessant nagging to upgrade to “Premium”.

Lots of stuff for sure. Not intuitive to use really at all. Accessing the account/log in to delete doesn’t work and there doesn’t seem to be a way to change the password. The augmented reality didn’t work until I subscribed to additional subscription fee. 50+ bucks for the first year? Wow. Live view just crashes..iPhone 14 plus pro? If you don’t have to have this for it’s controller functionality get something else. Was really excited to try this until it became apparent I should take a class to use this app and the functionality may or may not work.
  • Comet is premium only

Paid the steep app price of $24.99 only to learn that I need to pay an extra $29.99 for premium to see the comet. No thank you.

  • Good App but Bait and Switch

I have owned, used, and upgraded SkySafari over the years. I wanted to use it this week to try to view Comet C/2023 A3. My version did not show it, and a pop-up urged me to upgrade to SkySafari Pro 7 for $24.99. I paid and upgraded, only to then find I needed to pay for a Premium Membership to see info on the comet. Again I did so, and yet when I use the live view of my night sky, the comet is nowhere to be found, and a search for it in the app finds nothing. I am very disappointed.
  • Incredibly comprehensive and capable. Bad UI and defaults.

Defaults all set up for connecting to your scope, which I assume is fun and rewarding. If you don’t have a scope, you’ll have to futz with things you won’t find to get what you want. Waste of time. I used to love this app.
  • Wasted money

I wish I hadn’t wasted $25 on this. SkyPortal was much better. This thing connects to my telescope, but then there’s no way to operate it or tell it anything else no controls work Celestron 9.25 evolution by the way. Tinkering with it during the day almost every single thing I want to look at in this app requires more money in the form of a subscription upgrade to premium Yeah no.
  • Not as usable as 6

I’ve been using Sky Safari since version 4. Version 7 brought major changes to the user interface. The developers encouraged us to try it out and have patience getting used to the changes. Over a year later, I still find myself reverting to using version 6. More visually pleasing and faster to use. One other side note - a bit excessive to charge the amount they do for the Pro version and then also want to charge you a Premium subscription.
  • Works well…if it doesn’t lose your premium subscription information

I bought the premium version of this app last May (2024) The app was great until I stopped using it during the summer months. Autumn has arrived so it’s time to use it and start observing the stars again. But now it tells me I don’t have the premium version, which I have already purchased and can confirm via the App Store, which tells me it’s valid until May 2025. I tried to restore the purchase from within the app but got an error. I’m not paying for this twice. Get your act together, buying apps via Apple’s App Store is not a new thing. Very disappointed. I’m contemplating a refund if I can get one.
  • No longer Star sense aligns

It had been working well, but other night at same observing location on a clear night using Evo 8 with auto align began getting error: ‘Star sense error: could not plate solve the image’ after completing 1 of the 3 alignments. Finds stars 2nd 3rd attempt but fails plate solving and reverts to 0 of 3 alignments. It tries again with same error. The current time/date/location settings are correct.
