Description

This simple app is designed to do one thing well: alert you when your heart rate goes above and back below a BPM threshold you set. Beat Watcher integrates with the Health app to read your heart rate. Use this app as a way to listen to your body. It can be great for: • recognizing and managing stress • breathing exercises • meditation • working out Some users with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) have found this app helpful for monitoring and managing symptoms. Turn the Digital Crown on Apple Watch to set the desired BPM threshold. Then, you'll hear a sound and feel a vibration when your heart rate goes above the threshold, and a different sound and vibration when your heart rate goes back below the level you set. Optionally turn on Background Mode to continue getting haptic and audible feedback in response to your heart rate after you drop your wrist or leave the app. Enable the Persistent Alerts setting to continue getting haptic and audible feedback every two seconds while your heart rate remains above the set threshold. Or, if you just want constant heart rate monitoring without the haptic and audible feedback, you can turn Alerts off entirely. This app also works with a Bluetooth chest strap heart rate monitor, like the Polar H10, paired with your Apple Watch. Using it this way can improve battery life of the Apple Watch when you leave Background Mode running for a long time, since your Apple Watch heart rate sensor is not running constantly. Also, this lets you continue getting audio feedback from your Apple Watch or see your heart rate on the Apple Watch screen even when you aren't wearing it, like when it's on the charger. Note: Background Mode will not work at the same time as a Workout started in another app. For example, if you start Background Mode in Beat Watcher and then start an Outdoor Run Workout in the built-in Workouts app, Beat Watcher will not continue to run in the background. This app requires watchOS 8 or newer, which requires Apple Watch Series 3 or newer.

  • Amazing Heart Rate App

I couldn't believe I found an app that lets me increase the frequency of heart rate readings on my Apple Watch, essentially turning it into a sports watch. The instructions are well thought out, clear, and helpful. My only wish would be to have discovered this app sooner.
  • Love the real time complications!

Make sure to click allow when it asks you if the Beat Watcher app can update your Health data. Then the complication on your watch will update in real time. It’s amazing.

This measures my heart rate consistently and in the background. No fuss, no upsell, just pure function. The developer is incredibly responsive with updates and communications. This app is a must have if you own an apple watch. When I look at my apple health data graphed over time, I get actual points of data taken, back to back, all day.

  • Lifesaver app

I've had tachycardia for decades, and this is the first app that gives me an audible/haptic notification when my heart rate is too high ... instrumental when I'm sleeping or not looking directly at my Apple Watch all the time. I changed my Apple Watch face to "Modular Compact" to use the Beat Watcher (Heart Rate) complication across the entire bottom of the watch, which is very useful when I'm sleeping or I don't have my glasses on. It's the best money I've ever spent on an app ... for me, it's been a lifesaver. Thanks for making this app and making it so affordable - I regularly promote this app to other veterans with similar heart conditions. (UPDATE) A few days ago, while I was at the VA Clinic, Beat Watcher alerted me to an elevated heart rate of 127 ... so I pulled out my KardiaMobile 6L EKG device, and I was able to record a tachycardia event. Generally, when the VA takes an EKG, it's normal by the time they settle me into an exam room; however, Beat Watcher allowed me to record a tachycardia event to show my doctor ... without Beat Watcher, I might not have gotten an early warning to the heart arrhythmia and tachycardia episode. (Suggestion) I want to change the alert tone on Beat Watcher because it currently sounds like every other alert on my Apple watch. Additionally, I had to disable the iOS11 Smart Stack on my Apple watch to keep using Beat Watcher as expected, not a big deal since Beat Watcher is significantly more important to me than Smart Stack.
  • Great tool for ME/CFS & Long COVID

Setup is simple, and the app performs flawlessly. For most ME/CFS/LC patients, monitoring HR is critical for pacing and avoiding PEM. Just a wish list request if possible: Ability to view and export HR logs/data.
  • SPO2 would be great to have for face widget

This is very useful, but I would like to see the ability to have both the beats per minute rate and oxygen level combined in a singular presentation for the face widget when used in the upper left corner as a major corner presentation feature.
  • This app helped me manage a severe mental disorder. Thank you, Dev!!

This app and its ability to constantly monitor my heart rate and provide me with alerts at certain BPMs has helped me achieve stability by allowing me to better understand my moods and how they affect my heart rate. Thank you so much for creating this!

Great app once I figured out how to configure settings to prevent the app from opening when in constant heart monitoring mode. Highly recommend it.

Keeping track of my heart rate continuously throughout the day is critical for addressing my health issues. This is the only app I could find that allows me to see my real time heart rate as a complication (with updates every five seconds like you are in “workout mode”). The ability to run the app in background mode with heart rate alerts is a huge plus. I don’t find it to be a big battery drain, but that would be an acceptable trade off for me personally. I am disappointed that Apple does not allow the user to determine how frequently they want/need heart rate data. * I believe that the description for this app indicated a one time fee of $1.99. This price is well worth it, but I was not charged. Just wanted to let the developer know in case this was an error. Please continue to update the app!
