  • Tried matter, but the app is a waste of time.

It downloads most webpages fine, but the way it formats them is sometimes obnoxious and counterintuitive. I looked past it because they claim in multiple places the app can download PDFs and easily convert them for reading with all the features they advertise. I tried 4 PDFs and only one worked. I tried going premium (used the free trial) and same problem. I emailed their feedback email asking for help and got nothing. I emailed their support email, got nothing. I emailed their CEO, who emails you when you sign up saying to reach out to him with concerns. Did I get a response? Nope. It’s been a week. Don’t waste your time.
  • Let down by unresponsive Customer Support (update)

They finally responded. It seems you need to write a bad review for the to pay attention which is a shame. New version is nice, and Matter is probably still the best app to organize your reading, but some key features have gone for no good reason (they confirmed it). A good example is the ability for bulk delete both in your inbox and archive. It seems they assumed people don’t mind accumulating documents, but for many it’s key to keep their archives organized. Hope it comes back. Original review: The app is good, but despite being a paying and loyal customer and their claims of being user oriented, they never answer when you contact them. Good luck if you need support.
  • Used to Love…

I used this app to aggregate articles into a single file to send to my Kindle. Other apps allow single article send and it is very messy. I was enjoying the app; then the update happened. I lost the ability to do the only thing I used the app for. I contacted the company several times but never received a reply. I have Readwise, which is incredibly responsive. Rating a 1 because I couldn’t get help and paid in advance for a year.

  • Great and even better than Pocket

A really thoughtful and featured reader, and even better than what it replaced for me (the discontinued app Pocket).
  • My Pocket Replacer

When I heard that Pocket was being sunset, I scrambled to find a solution and I think that this will do just fine. I want to be able to add articles that I don’t have time to read in the moment, so that I can refer to them later, tag the article so that I can group the topics I want to read, and easily save from other sites. Matter ticks all of those boxes, but it also adds features I didn’t know I needed, like the ability to convert those articles to text and listen to them. For an information hog like myself, this has been invaluable because I can listen to the articles I’ve saved in the car or on a walk or while doing the dishes. At first, I was a little bummed out to have to pay for it, but considering I’ve lost all of my saved articles now three times in 30 years of digital existence because of companies going out of business, I’d rather support a company financially and keep it going!
  • Matter rocks!

Longtime Pocket user having evaluated everything I can get my hands on as a replacement! Matter feels like the winner for me. It is a very thought full app which is precisely what I want! Thought full content and more-so an engaging well thought out interaction that feels smart. No wasted moves, space or fluff, while addressing what I want to track beyond the norm. It’s tight - I dig it!

maybe it will save an article, but don't rely on it to do so
  • Women authors

Pretty good app. The content is very much lacking. I’m a big proponent of female authors and for whatever reason content from female authors is completely lacking. I’ve “followed” and “favorited” female authors but the content is so narrow that I consistently am not provided with any articles from them. Most of the days out of the week there’s just no options. I’ve falling back to simply finding my own content for which there’s no reason for me to pay for this service anymore.
