Description

CottonGame’s empty-headed protagonist is back for a new round of puzzle-filled fun in Mr. Pumpkin 2: Walls of Kowloon! Brought to you by Shanghai publisher Lilith Games, this indie point-and-click adventure will take you back in time to explore the chaotic maze of human life that was Kowloon Walled City. Cyberpunk elements add a touch of the fantastic to the world’s memorable characters and realistic scenes. Everyone has a story to tell and a mystery to unravel–are you up to the challenge? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- When it was finally demolished in 1993, Hong Kong’s Kowloon Walled City was the most densely populated place on the planet. Fifty thousand people lived and worked in an area the size of an average city block. A patchwork network of transportation systems, crude but efficient, connected the City’s labyrinthine passageways and buildings. The Walled City gained infamy as a lawless, densely populated ghetto, a jungle of dilapidated concrete and grimy neon signs echoing with the thunder of jet engines flying low overhead. Many historical accounts have focused on the darker side of life there: the gangs that ruled in lieu of police, the damp, sunless apartments whose inhabitants ate and slept alongside rats and cockroaches. Yet life in Kowloon was not without virtue. Most of the City’s residents made an honest living–working as dentists, shopkeepers, mechanics, etc.–and were intimately connected with their communities. They recognized the deficiencies of the place they called home, and they fought tooth and nail to give their children a chance at a better life, but they were not ashamed to live in the Walled City. Today all that remains are the glimpses of that marvelous existence captured in old newspaper clippings, home videos, and photo albums. But the City still lives in the memories of its former residents–and in the imaginations of cyberpunk fans worldwide. Mr. Pumpkin 2: Walls of Kowloon brings these memories to light once more...

  • Random seeming puzzle solutions

There is so much trial and error that you end up running around in circles. Not a lot of rhyme or reason, which makes the game frustrating and not so fun.
  • A wonderful cleaver game.

Really enjoyed the gameplay. Challenging, but not extremely difficult. It’s right in the sweet spot. I also feel it was an adequate length for the price, which is uncommon. God bless:)

I love isoland games. Was hopping this would be similar. It’s close but so issues. I honestly hate the puzzles bc some are so picky that it seems like it’s not the right solution when it is. Becoming frustrating and impossible. I can’t finish it bc I just don’t like the puzzles (some are just random and senseless) and the arcade games blow and u can’t pass. Lots of running back and forth with the hopes the items work. Had to find hints too

I can’t pass the circuit board in level 7 (dentist) I am doing exactly like the walkthrough by STEAM and it won’t let me pass, very angry!!
  • Good quality, interesting but some minor glitches

An interesting and generally well done game, but I ran into a bug that forced me to use a walkthrough. After getting the instructions from the pharmacist there is now way to repeat them. All others characters repeat their instructions when asked but not him. I find the solution, for which I had to use a walkthrough, kind of finicky to manually get right - the controls are not too clear. Other bugs that are less important are that characters routinely forget if they have already given Mr Pumpkin something or already received something from him and repeat things inappropriately.
  • Quirky & compelling!!

Not sure why this game or this developer doesn’t get more reviews but it prompted me to write one-these guys & this game deserve it! First, a major shout out to this historic depiction of Hong Kong culture! The seedy or sometimes desperate characters who are just trying to do their best to survive, the gorgeous intricate artwork, the funky locales & back alleyways of the Walled City were mind boggling. This game took time & great effort to make! The soundtrack from the onset pulled me in & who knew a cartoon pumpkin headed protagonist could be so compelling! The gameplay was intuitive and the puzzles were fun and sometimes challenging, yet not so difficult that I couldn’t figure it out with a little head scratching. Thank you Cotton Games for this beautiful piece that pays homage to a time in Chinese culture that may otherwise be forgotten. It prompted me to explore other Cotton Games (for which I am now a FAN!) as well as learn more about the Walled City of Kowloon. Can’t remember the last time a game prompted me to learn more about history!

Honestly, a very tasty way of exploring the concept of the city. I hope to see more adventures in HK because there are so many other places to travel. Protip, please think of implementing VO. I can imagine there will be many creative ways of making the characters speak.

I must be missing something because all these reviews are great, and I love these types of point and click adventure games, but this one made absolutely zero sense and was very difficult to navigate.
