Description

Connect AirPods (or other Bluetooth headphones) to your Mac with a single click or keypress. AirPods are great, but they don’t work quite as smoothly with Macs as they do iPhones. You can’t tell at a glance whether audio will play from the AirPods or your Mac’s built-in speaker, you have to dig into a Bluetooth submenu to connect, and then you have to go back to the menu to see when the AirPods are ready for use. ToothFairy streamlines this: just click an icon in the menu bar (or press a hotkey) to switch to the AirPods, and the icon always shows whether they’re connected. - Works with AirPods, as well as any Bluetooth device that you can connect to your Mac: headphones, speakers, headsets, game pad controllers, keyboards, mice, etc. (HomePod is not supported, as it is not a Bluetooth audio device.) - Click the hollow AirPods icon in the menu bar to switch to AirPods. It fills in to show they are connected and can also display a battery indicator. Now you know that it’s safe to start playing music; it won’t blast from your Mac’s internal speaker. - Supports multiple Bluetooth audio devices; you can choose a different icon and hotkey for each. - Get the best audio quality. macOS will normally use the SCO codec if it thinks you’re going to use the microphone. ToothFairy can ensure that it uses the higher quality AAC codec when you only care about audio output: listening to music or video or playing a game. - Disconnect a Bluetooth device by clicking the icon (or pressing the hotkey) again, so that you can switch back to your phone. AirPods and Beats devices with an Apple W1 chip do not need to be manually disconnected, and you can set them to avoid accidental disconnections when pressing the hotkey multiple times. - ToothFairy automatically launches at login, so it’s always there when you need it. - Optionally hide the Dock icon so it only appears in the menu bar. With the Dock icon hidden, you can right-click (or Control-click) the menu bar icon to access the settings. - Run a shell script when the AirPods are connected or disconnected, for example to notify you or to launch or quit another app. ToothFairy itself is also AppleScriptable, so you can control your devices from other apps (like Lacona) and automations. - Use with your Magic Mouse or Magic Keyboard to make sure the battery level doesn’t get too low, or to quickly reconnect them after charging or if they get disconnected. Note: ToothFairy works with devices that can be connected via the macOS Bluetooth menu. Please make sure the devices you want to connect have been paired to your Mac and work reliably before using them with ToothFairy. Switching Bluetooth devices between multiple Macs requires that the Bluetooth device can be paired with more than one computer/phone at a time; this is not supported by the current-generation Apple Magic Keyboard/Mouse/Trackpad. The battery indicator works with devices that can show their battery level in the Bluetooth pane of System Preferences. “The ultimate ‘saved you a click’ app” —Dieter Bohn, The Verge “Ideal for AirPods” —Matt Bolton, Mac|Life “A must for Mac or MacBook owners” —Mike Peterson, AppleToolBox

  • Multiple BONUS benefits!

Great BONUS benefits! • You can turn on a little battery meter for a given bluetooth device, and therefore always see how much charge is left! Don't forget to change the icons so you know which is which 😉 • Per-device settings give option to make headphones w/microphones work ONLY as headphones, which allows the full bandwidth to be used for AUDIO, so they sound much better!

This app is very handy for switching my Magic Keyboard, Mouse, and Trackpad between my personal MacBook and my work MacBook when working from home, since the reliability of the built-in Universal Control feature of macOS isn’t where I’d like it to be. However, one thing that would be even handier is the ability to switch a *group* of devices with one action, instead of one action per device and one device per action. That’d require a rethink of the app’s UI, but it’d be so, so good.
  • Doesn’t work with Apple Magic Keyboard

I wanted to like this App, I read the entire description and it said that it worked with Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse. I a Mac Studio and a MBP and want to use 1 monitor, 1 Keyboard and 1 mouse. I chose the Magic Keyboard as it allows mw to use my finger print to log in, etc. I thought that by pressing the assigned hot key I’d be able to disconnect from 1 Mac and connect to the other but it doesn’t work, once it’s disconnected from 1 Mac I have to manually plug it into the other Mac for the bluetooth connection to re-establish, I wish they would have said that in the description, I wouldn’t have purchased this app. I guess the only good thing about it is that now I can see the battery level on my Magic Keyboard but it’s not worth the money for that.
  • Great for AirPods

I have AirPod Pro 2 and use them on multiple Apple devices (MBP, Mac Studio, iPhone, iPad) and as you may know sometimes these devices compete for the AirPod’s connection. Most notable the Macs insist on stealing the AirPods from my iPhone when I need to use them on the phone. Or as I hop between Macs. I need to listen to audio from my Studio, but I’m checking mail or a message on my MBP and it wants to steal them from the Studio. Thats where ToothFairy comes in and is perfect for disconnecting them from a one or both my Macs when this becomes an issues. Honestly what is normally a headache and almost a dealbreaker is pretty much resolved with ToothFairy. I couldn’t enjoy my AirPods as much without it.

I have an Xcellon keyboard and a desktop and a laptop. Before Sonoma, the keyboard worked great -- I could press the extended-1 for the laptop and the extended 3 for the desktop. Somehow Apple seems to have gotten rid of that ability and I have to click "Connect" every few minutes on the laptop. PITA. I thought this app could obviate that, as none of my Terminal/bash/homebrew/deleting of preferences worked. But it doesn't prevent my clicking. That Verge review "saved you a click" app wasn't accurate for me. It also had the can't-click-Submit error. And I couldn't try it out before determining if this would fix my problem. So I'm not thrilled with this app. If you've having keyboards that don't stay connected no matter what you set in the System Preferences, this app won't help you, either.

I bought this with the intention of connecting my Cameo 3 to bluetooth on my M1 mac. I had lots of trouble since downloading Sonoma. This did not help. I still cannot connect.
  • So easy to switch between devices

"Auto switching" is terrible and this app saves the day!

It's great being able to 'seamlessly' use your AirPods between my iPhone, iPad and Mac. But it's also one of the most frustrating aspects. I have no idea why Apple can't make this easier. ToothFairy is a lifesaver. It does exactly what it promises. And now connecting my AirPods to my Mac is effortless. I've setup a keyboard shortcut that gets me connected in seconds. No more frustration. No more disconnecting and reconnecting my Airpods until they finally decide to connect to my Mac etc. Just bluetooth bliss.
