Description

Use Microsoft Authenticator for easy, secure sign-ins for all your online accounts using multi-factor authentication, passwordless, or password autofill. You also have additional account management options for your Microsoft personal, work or school accounts. Getting started with multi-factor authentication Multi factor authentication (MFA)provides a second layer of security. When enabled, during login after entering your password, you’ll be asked for an additional way to prove it’s really you. Either approve the notification sent to the Microsoft Authenticator, or enter the one-time password (OTP) generated by the app. The OTP codes have a 30 second timer counting down. This timer is so you never have to use the same time-based one-time password (TOTP) twice and you don’t have to remember the number. The OTP doesn’t require you to be connected to a network, and it won’t drain your battery. You can add multiple accounts to your app, including non-Microsoft accounts like Facebook, Amazon, Dropbox, Google, LinkedIn, GitHub, and more. Getting started with passwordless Use your phone, not your password, to log into your Microsoft account. Just enter your username, then approve the notification sent to your phone. Your fingerprint, face ID, or PIN will provide a second layer of security in this two-step verification process. After you’ve signed in with two factor authentication (2FA), you’ll have access to all your Microsoft products and services, such as Outlook, OneDrive, Office, and more. Getting started with autofill Microsoft Authenticator app can also autofill passwords for you. Sign-in on the Passwords tab inside the Authenticator app with your personal Microsoft account to start syncing passwords, including the passwords saved in Microsoft Edge. Make Microsoft Authenticator the default autofill provider and start autofilling passwords on apps and sites you visit on your mobile. Your passwords are protected with multi-factor authentication in the app. You will need to prove yourself with your fingerprint, face ID, or PIN to access and autofill passwords on your mobile. You can also import passwords from Google Chrome and other password managers. Microsoft personal, work or school accounts Sometimes your work or school might ask you to install the Microsoft Authenticator when accessing certain organization resources. You will need to register your device to your organization through the app and add your work or school account. Microsoft Authenticator supports cert-based authentication by issuing a certificate on your device. This will let your organization know that the sign-in request is coming from a trusted device and help you seamlessly and securely access additional Microsoft apps and services without needing to log into each.

  • Can’t login to my work account

I received a new phone and I’m unable to get a pop up code to be able to log me in on my device. I need to log in to use Microsoft’s apps and it doesn’t even let me do that no matter what I try. I use Microsoft for work and this is something my campus’s IT team can’t help with

The app is having trouble since the last update. When the pop-up to enter the number opens, the Auto-fill kicks in and it appears to be frozen. It doesn’t react to any taps for a while but then it wakes up and shows all the numbers you tapped. There can’t be auto-fill in that field. Also, the old bug of number entry screen not coming up sporadically is still not fixed. Not a major issue as it can be summoned by additional tap but for the app where the only UI is to enter a number it’s annoying. And I wish it didn’t require touch ID twice. There is no reason to ask for it before opening the authentication window. Again, not the end of the world but a nuisance in our daily lives.

Try to log into my Microsoft apps. It tells me to go to the authenticator app which tells me to open the authenticator app. And there’s no way to log on.

Dumbest idea ever when you removed this functionality from the app
  • Frustrating to use.

I get having to update security because people have gotten smarter and more quick to scam these days. But this just feels like overkill. And I had to spend 30 minutes trying to set it up so I could check my emails for the day. The verification codes are the most frustrating thing about this app. They go away so quickly and when you refresh, the codes don’t match. Overall frustrating.
  • Recent changes problematic

I only use this to log into Microsoft accounts. The random changes made in the most recent update create hindrances to that objective without helping security. For example - the app used to check face ID when you opened it. Now it asks and you have to respond. NO security benefit. Just another step. Why Microsoft????
  • New phone issues

This worked fine enough until I got a new phone. Now I am stuck in a loop. I cannot log into the Authenticator without logging into the Authenticator and typing in a code first. No matter what I do, I just can’t get in. I can’t log into Microsoft to get the QR access code to scan either because it also requires that I log into the Authenticator app and type in a code first. I wouldn’t need to scan the QR code if I was already in the Authenticator app. My company uses sso for all apps, so I can’t do anything on my phone right now.
  • This app is the worst

This app wouldn’t put the number on my phone. I don’t often write these reviews but I felt the need to now because this is so important. I’m in college and need this app to work so I can get into my college app. I can’t take a test because the number thing won’t work. The only options I have is a QR code that doesn’t exist or a code that won’t work. You can also use the security code but that is only if you can find it. I have pushed EVERY SINGLE button I can think of and nothing. I give up.
  • DO NOT USE IF NOT REQUIRED

Terrible product. There is apparently a common occurrence with the college password required changes that breaks your Authenticator and locks you out of all your accounts. Support on the phone directs you to the website to submit a case. The website requires you to log in which you can’t do with the broken Authenticator. I would give this 0/5 if possible.
