Description

Keep your conversations private. Proton Mail is encrypted email from Switzerland. The Wall Street Journal says: “Proton Mail offers encrypted email, which makes it virtually impossible for anyone to read it except the sender and the recipient.” With the all-new Proton Mail app, you can: • Create a @proton.me or @protonmail.com email address • Send and receive encrypted emails and attachments with ease • Switch between multiple Proton Mail accounts • Easily manage your email with conversations • Keep your inbox tidy and clean with folders, labels and simple swipe-gestures • Receive new email notifications • Send Password-protected Emails to anyone • Enjoy your inbox in dark mode Why use Proton Mail? • Proton Mail is free — We believe everyone deserves privacy. Upgrade to a paid plan to get more done and support our mission. • Easy to use — Our all-new app has been redesigned to make it easier to read, organize, and write your emails. • Your inbox is yours — We don’t spy on your communications to show you targeted ads. Your inbox, your rules. • Rigorous encryption — Your entire inbox is secured, on all your devices. No one can read your emails but you. Proton is privacy, guaranteed by end-to-end and zero-access encryption. • Unmatched protection — We offer strong phishing, spam, and spying/tracking protection for all your communications. Industry Leading Security Features Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception. Zero Access to Your Email Content Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages. Open-Source Cryptography Proton Mail's open-source software has been thoroughly vetted by security experts from around the world to ensure the highest levels of protection. Proton Mail only uses secure implementations of AES, RSA, along with OpenPGP, while all of the cryptographic libraries used are open source. By using open-source libraries, Proton Mail can guarantee that the encryption algorithms used do not have clandestinely built-in back doors. Proton Mail in the press: “Proton Mail is a Gmail-like email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.” Forbes “A new email service being developed by a group who met at MIT and CERN promises to bring secure, encrypted email to the masses and keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.” Huffington Post Follow Proton on social media for all the latest news and offers: Facebook: /proton Twitter: @protonprivacy Reddit: /protonmail Instagram: /protonprivacy Our open-source code base: https://github.com/ProtonMail EULA: http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/appstore/dev/stdeula

  • A basic feature is premium-locked?

Good service, but is it really necessary to lock auto-deleting trashed emails behind a premium subscription? I can understand paying for more storage and aliases, but trash removal?

We’ve moved most of our custom domains to Proton for security purposes. On the whole, we love Proton and its services. The mail app for iOS is a bit buggy, however, and I must’ve filed about 15 bug reports over the last month. It also has a couple of odd features, such as changing settings when you log out. Generally, it’s very usable and works fine, but be prepared for a variety of oddities.

Purchased after my family was hacked, 7 times. My parents lost all their savings and couldn’t stop the bleeding. Changed all their accounts and bought Proton for all cell phones and computers. Now, if there is a bug in the communication, Proton informs us and the malicious message is never downloaded. We have had almost six months of bliss, after years of pain. Thank you Proton and everyone who helps us remain safe.

The same day your payment bounces because your card expired they will send you an email threatening to delete all your data if you don’t upgrade THAT SAME Day! Other reports of people getting their accounts 100% deleted because the payment gets flagged by mistake. Be very careful using this

Overall loving the app/service my only complaint is I wish the iPad version had a split view between the inbox and the current mail you are viewing.
  • Almost perfect

I really like this service. The app is pretty well-done. My biggest ask is that you make a standalone Contacts app. The fact my contacts are buried in this app is a bizarre organizational choice. Please fix it.
  • Major glitch

I am enjoying proton mail and the app works well with one major exception. The app will not open or freezes if you’ve left it open on your phone for anything longer than a half an hour. When you go back into check mail again, You cannot get to your email. The only way to fix it seems to be closing and reopening the app.

We’ve been using Proton for +5 years. It works. I feel better that it’s encrypted _and_ the company has a profit motive built on it. I pay and use the bridge to make local backups.
  • Not as advertised

The basic functionality works great. If you just want a private alternative to Google with the same poor quality of service I highly recommend setting up a free account. If you are investing in a private solution for a business or more advanced personal use, i recommend going elsewhere. Apps are released without regard for different use cases, devices, or hardware requirements. Ex: the calendar app for iPad remains fixed in an iPhone viewport even after 2 years of development. The Drive desktop app is only available for the latest version of MacOS. Requesting support sends you to a user forum that takes centuries to sign up for. In short, the privacy feature is just another tech company trying to corner a market, it’s not a better service.
