  • Approachable way to learn

So far, I have only gone through the first half of the Comp Sci and programming lessons, but it seems to be a really approachable way to learn the topics. The Level 1 of the course starts at the absolute beginning and focuses on problem solving. It helps frame problems the way a programmer would need to address them in code before actually worrying about the syntax of individual coding languages.

An amazing app that encourages learning and explains important topics incredibly.

As a lifelong learner, I read regularly, process articles, and practice application. Brilliant misses the basic marks in a learning app, leaving large gaps and providing poor context to the user. Do not punish yourself or succumb to their marketing glitz. Find something better. I tested several learning areas that I familiar with and practice in my daily employment. If my first exposure to these areas was the Brilliant app, I would have left feeling stupid and beaten down. If this is what you’ve experienced, it’s not you, it’s the result of a poor quality learning system with a hyped up sales team.

I've been using this app for a little over a month and am loving it! I was a little skeptical about the yearly price, but it was absolutely worth it.

A payment to your app should be a cherry on top, not a key to the whole of the content.

Like the content. But sometimes it doesn’t feel like it’s made for an iPhone and the buttons for checking or submitting answers and/or the question are spaced weird and outside of what I can see so I’m missing context or can’t access the button smoothly. Another placement thing I don’t like and find annoying is the repeat lesson buttons and I hit those by accident and am sent back to the start. Then it looks like I never did the lesson even if I completed it. None of these are deal breakers. I mean I’m paying for the app after all. But it’s a bit annoying at times and seem like small changes that could be remedied more easily than full on content development. I have premium and after each block of lessons in probably for data analysis it keeps asking me if I want to try premium for free. Ok next request? Is space to write stuff down and figure out problems in the app. They have gridded logic problems and I guess they want us to draw this out on paper on our own? I realize this sounds nit picky but they go hard for visualizing things (and they sometimes don’t always add a lot of value) but then don’t have what seems like functional things like a place to solve the problems or draw things out on our own in app.
  • Slow going, dull, scam on subscription—looks cancelled when active

Tried it after a youtuber said it is great. After trying it, I think he was paid to say so. The process is slow. To progress, you have to click through and read the explanation. But often the question or portion is a no-brainer. Slogged through a couple sections, hoping I’d learn something new. Nope. So I went in and cancelled. When I opened the app it said “renew subscription.” This implies it’s cancelled. So I cancelled and also read wording consistent with no subscription. And yet—a month later they charged me for ONE YEAR. It’s a scam with graphics. * Edit: checked again just now. After cancelling 3 times, it still says I have a Premium subscription. The site is confusing.
