App still needs option to sort current/all individually like on the old version. Do not move the episode out of current when finished. If I finish a podcast I want it to stay in current so I can delete download first.
  • Still the best

After a fumble, the developer swiftly addressed the most glaring usability issues from the redesign, enhancing performance and reliability. Overcast’s audio engine stands out as the best in its class, offering volume normalization (Voice Boost) and silence removal (Smart Speed). Despite trying several other podcast apps, none can match Overcast’s superior sound quality and user-friendly interface.

Overcast has been my favorite podcast app for 10 years, but it has been disappointingly unreliable since the 2024.7 update. I’ve been holding off writing a review in hopes things would get addressed over time, but unfortunately this hasn’t been the case. 1. Downloads frequently fail and have to be retried/restarted. 2. The UI fails. Navigating from one UI view to another results in empty UI elements. No album artwork, no file metadata displayed, no playback information, and greyed out playback controls. App must be forcefully restarted. 3. Does not work properly with AirPlay. When trying to play audio through an AirPlay2 device, the audio regularly fails to play audio or to advance the playhead. In the rare instances where AirPlay audio does work, podcasts will not advance to the next item in playlists, and skipping forward/back or pausing will cause playback to fail. I do not have this problem with any other app. 4. A variety of minor playback issues like skipping forward/back not advancing the playhead and snapping back to the original position. Playback starting over at 0:00 when the app has been idle or when the playback device (headphones) are changed. All my devices and software are up to date and I have reinstalled the app from the App Store, to no avail.

You may want to turn off suggested podcasts they interject into your feed but you cant. Im switching from overcast because of this.

This amazing app just keeps getting better. The basic functionality has been solid for years, but now it’s the little things that are making the app even better. For example, the sleep timer. With the UI change it started out functional, but a little hard to use. Now user feedback has been incorporated and it is awesome. I love that after the sleep time pauses play, you can hit play from the Lock Screen and the sleep timer starts again.

Why isnt there a selection to stop following the show when a episode is open and there are three dots on the right with options.

The Overcast rewrite is now super solid and performant. This app reached 5 stars months ago (IMHO), so sorry for delayed review. It is by far my favorite podcast app, and now that its been written in SwiftUI it will get better and better. Well done, Marco!

Use Overcast exclusively for podcast listening, have tried several others but none are as streamlined for users. Great job!

Thank you so much for adding back the “Play Next“ option! I love the queue and playlist features now that I use them more, but play next is just a quicker way to add to my active listening. Thank you again!
