    Update: Came back to this recently, and the Dec 2025 had made it worse. The info button is worse, the slide functions are worse. Have been using this app for years and then they screw up how the playlists appear on the screen. No longer can you see them all on one screen, you have scroll right to see them all. Poor decision.

    It pains me to write a negative review as someone who’s used overcast for probably a decade but the “feature” where it starts playing a different podcast if it’s buffering or downloading the current podcast is genuinely infuriating. I’m fine just letting it load

    NEW ISSUES MARCH 2021: The play next feature does not work. Downloading/Streaming options cause all sorts of issues, especially while attempting to AirPlay to a HomePod. Using this app with CarPlay is also rather finicky. The app has some of the worst podcast discovery/search options I’ve seen. I’m ready to migrate to a different app. December 2025: I stopped using this app from 2021 until early 2025. I decided to give it another go after the “big rewrite” and see if things had improved. Sorry to say but there’s so many little annoyances in this app that it’s unusable for me. CarPlay still isn’t consistent. Most of my podcast listening is done in the car, and when random episodes (downloaded or “streamed”) stop playing for no reason and the app crashes, it’s beyond frustrating. I’ve had a couple of new iPhones over the years, so it’s not out of date hardware. Yesterday, I received a phone call while listening to ATP.fm (the irony) and after the call ended, Overcast simply never resumed playback and my now playing widget showed that I was listening to nothing. I’ve witnessed this behavior a lot frequently where if the podcast is paused, for a min or longer, the now playing widget shows nothing playing and I have to open the app and resume playback. It’s like the process is being backgrounded and killed. This is a podcast app, it should play audio seamlessly and effortlessly like Apple Music, the Apple Podcast app, and even backgrounded YouTube. It doesn’t. The developer whines on his podcasts about how bad the negative reviews make him feel. I too develop software used by random people across the globe. I take the feedback and improve the product I work on. I don’t whine to my podcast audience about how negative feedback hurts my feelings, I fix the issues.

    I am begging you to please fix the issue where if a podcast isn’t fully downloaded yet while starting to play it randomly jumps to the next podcast. It is so frustrating. Otherwise this is a good app. Also add a feature in car play to delete episodes and a better way to sort episodes in car play.
