The Official Reddit app is awful on iPad landscape mode. I am glad I found this app that uses all the screen real estate on landscape. The subscription fee is well worth it for that alone. No ads is a huge bonus as well.
  • GIFs in comments don't load

So many good things and customization. But in subs where most of the comments are reaction GIFs it makes it seem almost unusable. I'm going to continue paying and supporting. But leaving a 1 star until this gets resolved.

Great job developing this app. Worth the price
  • No ads? Yes, upon paying. Highly customizable? Within one (weak) design philosophy.

I really wanted to love this app but after a week of using it I really just find myself barely using Reddit anymore (you win, this is likely the best case scenario lol). This app having an “Open in Narwhal” / “Open Reddit link” button on the side is really nice and appreciated. This is somehow something the Hydra devs (another Reddit app) failed to make even something adjacent. However that’s pretty much the end of my compliments. The long and the short of why I dislike this app is because the design philosophy is just meant to be pretty I guess. It doesn’t feel cohesive or functional. Apollo back in the day when it was available through official channels was a perfect blend of pretty and function. This however feels a lot more pretty than function. I swipe right from the left to the right of my screen to go back on the app. However, this then makes the only way for me to reply to comments to tap this tiny button in the top right of their comment. Holding down and having a menu would be nice there. Also it feels like it’s hard to differentiate between the comments and posts a lot of the time. Even the comments themselves. The design is too minimalistic and again, trying to be too pretty. I don’t like it.

I’m not sure why this isn’t implemented but I’m seriously wondering why this app requires me to click on every post to view it. Pointless.

Your data and APi costs are not justified by a subscription at this cost. 🤡
  • Worth paying for

The original Narwhal was my Reddit app of choice for years before the API changes. Like most, I’d prefer not to pay for social media apps, but this app is so much better than the official Reddit app that I’m happy to support the dev in this case. It keeps the minimalist, unintrusive experience of the original Narwhal and has improved upon the experience with better video playback and customization options. My only gripe is that I have to keep the official app because my mobile browser won’t open Reddit links in third party apps.

If the app would not take you to a main screen without payment, that isn't IAP, that's a paid app. Please at least be upfront about it

Pay for Reddit the small team that makes this app has crafted a wonderful experience. The Reddit app is really good from going from being OK; at least there’s no Blinky text on the website anymore. Reddit has banned all six of my accounts because the fascist mods on Starbucks and other places think there are the hyper kings of all information. Return. Banded Boston? You can still use Reddit and I go through anthropic Claude now thinking about how to ban every mod on every forum since I go back to AT&T. SVR one days.
