  • Must-have app for cooking enthusiasts

Enormously helpful app to catalogue your cookbooks and recipes. The app has an impressive database of published cookbooks, including some rare editions. I’m so thankful that they migrated from a website to an app—the barcode scanner has made my life so much easier!
  • Game Changer!

Ok, I got a 30 day trial (shoutout Anchovy Book Co!) and thought it would be useless (hello I already have all the cookbooks in print, what do I need an app?) and I was SO WRONG. This is amazing. It’s like searching a recipe app but if your own cookbooks. Sure, you could flip though a bunch of books and find a recipe you want to make but why do that when you can search the app for “ground turkey” and it will pull up every recipe from your cookbooks that use that ingredient. Love the comments feature too!
  • The app still needs some work.

I don’t find the app nearly as useful as the eatyourbooks.com website. I think the two column graphical display of search results is a lot harder to use than the single column text display on the site. It requires a lot more eye movement. In addition, It lists only the recipe name and the cookbook name, no ingredients. You have to click through to see those. The filter for results is also lacking. There doesn’t appear to be any way to limit the search to say course or ethnicity. I’ll check back from time to time to see how things go.

The ingredients are listed but not recipes. I guess this is a copyright issue that publishers blocked. Am I right?
  • Barcode scanner not great

So far I’ve had the app 10 minutes and gone through 2 shelves of books. It’s not able to scan about half. Books like Tartine, and How to Cook Everything, not obscure cookbooks at all.
  • Please display qty of ingredients

I really enjoy this app. I don’t find myself using it long term due to the lack of qty not displaying on the ingredients required for the recipe. If I am at a farmers market and see ready to eat peaches, I would like to know how much to buy to make a recipe that I have in a book at home. Unfortunately I would have to leave and come back to buy or guess the qty. Please update! This will be a game changer!
  • Disappointing release

I waited so long for eat your books to release an app and was thrilled when they finally announced the release. I wanted to be able to easily leave recipe comments & upload photos. I was hoping it would encourage other users to leave their comments & photos as well, as that is where so much of the value of my subscription lies. Unfortunately this app doesn’t allow photo uploads for recipes. I still need to upload those from the website.

Have you’ve ever bough a specific ingredient for a single recipe and now wonder what the heck to do with the rest of it? This app if for you! I no longer feel guilty about buying pomegranate molasses, kaffir lime leaves, or harissa paste. I have a major cookbook problem and CookShelf has made my addiction manageable. I love that I can search across all of my books for a single ingredient and see reviews of recipes from other cooks. It’s helped me rediscover lost loves and find new ones.

I’ve been using Eat Your Books for years to search my cookbooks but the website is very slow and you have to log in every time you use it. This app gives me the same information but is much faster.

Love the handy digital access to my favorite cookbooks - and the reverse search where I can find recipes that match the contents of my fridge!
