First, I love Ticket to Ride. I play with the family all the time cross-country. We used to play the old version. I was very annoyed to have to buy it again for everyone. But the worst part is how buggy the game is. We get error message about disconnections all the team even when we have a stable connection. We get moments where you can’t grab any cards and you need to turn off the iPad screen and turn it back on the play again. And the Bubble chat/friend system has all the refinement of 1998 AIM. Save your money for now and wait for bug fixes before you buy this.

Glitched on my first game. Towards the very end of the game, I suddenly couldn’t take my turn and when I closed the app and came back, the trains disappeared and it reset me to the beginning, but the other players still had scores. Wouldn’t let me continue. Disappointing for a paid app.

As the title says, it’s fun and it’s just like the board game, but the ai will go out of their way to the point of not working on their own route just to screw yours up. Also ridiculously unfair card distribution as I have gone 3 turns in a row without pulling a card color I needed whereas the ai are getting tons of the same color
  • Ranked play unusable

I played over 10,000 games in the old app and had no intention to play the new app which at launch had no ranked play, design disasters, and glitchy reports. This app is trash but I love the board game so hearing ranked play was added and a simplified map I decided to download after years of protest. Although adding these feature makes the game sort of playable it is still a far worse app than the former. The biggest issue by far is the app desperately needs a way to create games with a ranking minimum. You could do this in the old app and it allowed a metagame to unfold. Unfortunately the new app does not allow you to sort for skill and anyone can join your game. If you are a good player you are constantly paired with players who do not even understand the most fundamental strategy is to save for the 6 trains first. Overwhelmingly the game is flooded with low skill players dropping a bunch of little trains quickly and seeming to never learn that this is the quickest way to lose. 9 out of 10 times a player who just understands the basic strategy of saving for six trains will wipe the floor. It doesnt require skill or thought because there is no one to be competitive with. The leaderboard is whatever good enough player plays the most because you just keep ranking up from always being paired with bad players. We need to be able to set a minimum rank to join the game to solve that problem like was the case with the last app. We can’t have interesting games like we use to because we cant exclude low rank players so you almost never get to play with someone of comparable skill. It feels like the devs just want short wait times so the lowest common denominator will play at the expense of the game being good or interesting. Its short sighted to not see that this alienates the people who would play your app the most. I strongly prefer to play a good game that I had to wait ten minutes for than a mindless one that starts immediately. The second most frustrating thing is how glitchy the app is. The old app was terrible and somehow this app manages to glitch way more often. The best I can say is removing chat was the right move. Truly I mostly saw petty arguments in the chat and am glad to have it gone, but emojis would be nice. Theres no sense of community anymore because you can’t chat and you wont keep seeing the same players since you can’t exclude based on rank. The other kind of good feature is the timer. No more waiting ten minutes for someone who is not there. What is not so good about it is it is probably contributing bad players not being able to improve. The best way to play is to plan the entire route you want and then collect the biggest trains first adapting when others take or threaten your routes. New players are probably not learning to count out their routes because they have little time to think. And unlike the old app there is no display for the number of cards in your own hand so Im constantly counting my hand. I think new player would benefit from having that info readily displayed. When there was ranked play people could adapt their strategy and see the result of them moving up the rank. In this limbo of unskilled players no one seems to learn what strategies are better or worse. The trains song from the old app, with old timey music featuring a sad section 😂 is a loss I will never recover from. Generic simesque background music is absolute trash in comparison to the OG absolute banger. You did the world dirty with that one. Youve already emailed me years ago and told me its not a song you have the rights to but in this climate look around no one is following the law its time to finally use that as a force for good and bring back the classic song dear to all our hearts. Do do doooo do dooo doot doot dooo do doooot / Dooot dooo do doooot doooo do doooot do doooo, dadundadoo, do do doooo do dooo doot doot doot doot doot, dwado, doot da doo doot da Doot doot da doooo I will continue to spend all my Steam points giving awards to players who post negative reviews -H4llow33nF4c3

I have been playing all versions of ticket to ride since the board game originally came out. It got me back into board gaming after not playing for about a decade. Now I have over 250 board games and Ticket to Ride is still my favorite.
