Best app for learning new languages. Thanks Duo
  • Hacked account and inappropriate content I can’t get rid of.

    By Dissapointed#1LionsFan
Amazing app. Easy free and works. Super helpful. I love the new legendary crown. It looks so cool. And it’s a good refresher. Very challenging. Wish i didn’t have to use gems and that there was some way to message other users. Also somebody got into my account and followed people with some really inappropriate profile pictures. And it won’t let me get into these profiles to unfollow them. Please fix this.
  • An Excellent First SEVERAL Steps

    By Reru Vaughn
Duolingo is a thorough introduction to speaking a language - right up over the lower edge of fluency, if used well. I'd say the course (at least for my intended language) will get me to a point where immersion study will be at its most fruitful, as I will have had the background in the most common vocabulary and grammar drilled into me by the fun characters. I enjoy that it's chopped up into bite-sized lessons, so I can squeeze it in anytime I'm not busy. But I find it most useful if I can dedicate an hour or more to study a lesson several times in a row (crowns are fun for recording that). So just a tip for those serious about diving into a language FOR REAL^ get those crowns to a high level so the lessons are less likely to be forgotten in a few days! If you're expecting REAL FLUENCY to just come to you through the app... 1. It will take a very long time of casual use... Or 2. It will require large dedicated chunks of TIME (and probably you practicing writing the vocab/sentences ON A REGULAR BASIS)... Or 3. You're expecting too much of the app without putting in your own effort (no offense, just honest). It is an excellent tool, but like any tool, it takes your effort! But be encouraged: if you put effort into it, this app is EXCELLENT at helping you achieve your language goals! Let the app be fun and if you're having an off day(s), just do a couple lessons to keep up the habit of practicing every day : ) and when you're ready to get after it again, you haven't dropped your habit of daily practice!

I like this app but my family is held hostage because I didn’t take my Spanish lessons...
  • Legendary timed lessons need to go

    By DuoLingoPlayerAlex
As a regular user i find the legendary timed lessons incredibly frustrating and unfair. There is just not enough time to complete some lessons and besides, it is discriminatory to some users that for whatever reason are not able to type as well or fast. Secretaries will probably ace it though.
  • Learning two languages and having lots of fun doing it

    By Robin from Ashland
I had 3 years of French in early elementary school in Canada, 2 years of French in high school and always wanted to become more fluent before traveling there…one day…and so Duolingo to the rescue! Spanish has also been a language I’d love to learn, so during these COVID times I’ve spent evenings using Duolingo to do both and find it fun and challenging. They’ve really done a great job with offering different learning tools with the lessons, stories, and communication practice—all interactive and fun. Thanks Duolingo!
  • Make a new language called Hong Kong 🇭🇰

    By Alexa Ng
I like to learn both Japanese and Mandarin Chinese properly as an exercise. I checked all of these international languages in Duolingo, such as Spanish, Germany, French, Russian and other things, except Cantonese that I tried to search. I searched the Hong Kong 🇭🇰 in Duolingo, but it doesn’t have it anyway. I was hoping you should make a new language Hong Kong Cantonese in Duolingo for me.
