Description

Named by Time.com's @Techland as one of the best weather apps for your iPhone and Apple Watch. Severe weather alerts for your exact location. Storm Shield gives you storm-based alerts for tornado, hurricane, flood, thunderstorm, winter storms and other life-threatening weather events via voice and push notification. Storm-based alerts help reduce false alarms by alerting you to severe weather based on your exact location within a county. County-based alerts can result in false alarms, warning you when your location in the county is not within the threatened area. What people are saying: • Storm Shield "alerted our family of the Broken Arrow, OK tornado, faster than the TV and tornado sirens." - Robyn • "I was in Oklahoma City during the tornado... we were right in its path. Your app literally was a life saver." - dcalk12 Benefits: • Get voice alerts just like a NOAA weather radio via push notification anywhere in the United States. • With Apple Watch, get a tap on your wrist when alerts are issued for your locations. • Add Storm Shield's widget to your Today screen to get quick access to active alerts for the first location in your app. • Touch Storm Shield's app icon on your 3D-Touch enabled iPhone for widget access. • Hi-Def radar map is your home screen so you can quickly see what's going on at your locations. • Fully supports Dark Mode in iOS 13. • Long-tap on the map to get current conditions, hourly and daily forecasts. • Save additional locations to ensure family members stay safe. View NOAA severe weather alerts on the map to see where dangerous weather is happening: • Tap alerts to view info • Flood watches & warnings • Tornadoes & Thunderstorms • Hurricane & Tropical Storm forecast tracks • Winter storms • Marine & Coastal alerts • Radar & Clouds • Wind Speed • Snow Fall • Water Temperatures • Road Weather • Premium Weather (purchase required) • Lightning Alerts and notifications (purchase required) Enhance your app with auto-renewing monthly subscriptions: • Buy 'Premium Weather' to unlock these features and see predicted imagery for these map layers: 1) Future Radar 2) Future Clouds 3) Future Clouds & Radar together 4) Future Surface Temperature Land 5) Future Surface Temperature Water 6) Future Surface Temperature Land & Water together 7) Future Wind Speeds Map 8) Storm Tracks: See how fast storms are moving & where they're headed. • Buy 'Lightning' to unlock these 2 features: 1) Lightning strike push notifications up to 10 miles away. 2) See lightning on the map within 100 miles of a selected location. • Wrong county!

Live in a major metropolitan county but only get alerts for the county 2 to 3 miles east of where I live. Not very useful.

I’ve had this app for a few years now. Last week an update came through and now I know longer am connected to my local forecasting station. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app multiple times to try to correct it. I sent an email to the developer and they have never replied. I suppose they aren’t worried about it - they got their money from me. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS APP DUE TO LOUSY CUSTOMER SERVICE.
  • Videos no longer appearing

I’ve sent an email to support and the automated response does not address this issue in any of the troubleshooting or FAQ section. I’ve been using this free version of the app since 2015. I uninstalled and reinstalled and nothing appears. There are no instructions to troubleshoot that I’ve found. The local news station videos are the top reason I use the app. The process of selecting my local provider does not occur as an option and it doesn’t seem like the updated version is loading when I uninstall and reinstall. Please answer via a personal email and send an explanation or just say they are no longer available with the free version and I’ll find another app with local videos. I hate to lose this as my first line of preparedness.

Consistently shows a weather alert notification, then when it is clicked and the app opened, is says 0 alerts despite active alerts in my location. Unreliable and dangerous.
  • No Alerts

I have had Storm Shield for years and have all alert types checked. While other weather apps send alerts (as they are right now for lightning, thunderstorm, etc.,), I’m not receiving any from this app. I’ve checked my settings; no issues there. I have the latest version. Please fix!
  • App is failing on severe weather alerts

I don’t know what happened with this app, but I have had it for years, I’ve updated the newest updates, but have not been receiving any alerts for severe weather in Florida? I’m getting tons of alerts from another weather app, including lightning with 10 miles. But this app? Crickets. Not feeling the trust in this app at all. I have not rec’d alerts in days. Installed latest updates today. Yesterday I was at an outdoor concert with storms nearby. Other app warned me constantly. Nothing from this app. I’ve checked all my settings and everything is set properly. What is going on with this app? It used to be great, my go to app. The other app also gave me a heads up on a tropical depression. You have not.
  • Least accurate

I’ve used this app for nearly 2 years. It’s not accurate. I live in York ME and right now the app says it partly cloudy. It’s been pouring heavily for over an hour. Looking at their radar shows no clouds or rain in our area. This is what I’ve experienced using the app way too often. Just deleted it.

Just got an alert, but the storm passed by minutes half an hour ago
  • What happened? (June 2025)

Ever since the last update, not the one today, the temperature and feels like has been reading the same even though the dewpoint are in the mid to upper 60s, and also the warning that we are getting (I live in Michigan) is showing for Canada and reading in Celsius. I just did the new update and it did not correct any of that. Yesterday I also tried turning my phone off for a bit turning it back on, that didn’t do anything for the app. I also uninstalled the app and reinstalled the app, and it didn’t fix the problem either. **Update: Alerts still showing Celsius and for Canada. PLEASE FIX THIS or I will be canceling my overpriced subscription.

Extreme heat warnings do not show up as a severe weather map overlay. Heat advisories do, although they are less severe.
