  • Used to be good

I used Tune In back in the day. I redownloaded it as I remember it having a great selection. All the options start with an ad, which is understandable. Immediately after the first ad a counter appears stating ’2 of 3 ads’ which was weird but still acceptable. Once it connects to the station you get more ‘radio ads’ with no count, and it was more than five consecutively. TLDR: Tune In has become a cesspool of nonstop ads and unskippable audio segments. Useless app unless you pay.
  • Freezes constantly

Freezes constantly when my actual radio has no problem playing the same station and I have good phone reception. Ads during songs are frequent and they don’t play hit songs on most stations. It’s all the bad songs and unheard of artists. Not worth the free version, doubt the pay version is better.
  • I just can’t use it

Every time I open this app there is a screen with only one button to subscribe to a premium paid version. I can’t do anything with this app!
  • If you only wanna listen to ads and not your radio station

40.7.1 seems like they’ve fixed the repetitive ads issue [2026 Jan] 40.0.01- launch the app and listen to ads. Select a station and listen to more ads. The station finally starts to play. OK now send the stream to your smart speaker in my case of HomePod. You’ll enjoy an INFINITE STREAM OF ADVERTISEMENTS. v 33.0.0, June 2025 I’ve used this app to listen to local radio stations in the past. Now the app requires me to listen to 14 ads at 15 seconds each for one station, 9 ads 15 seconds each for the other. ^ V 25.1.1. IPHONE: I’ve used TuneIn for at least a few years now. As of about three months ago, late 2020 to the app launches displaying an ‘oops’ error screen and/or the spinning error wheel. I cannot get the app to work. Had to switch over to another radio app. iPad- app works just fine.

Would be great if this app worked as a standalone on the Apple Watch. I love using this on my iPhone and in my Tesla. Because of the lack of standalone functionality, I rate it three stars rather than the five stars that I would normally give it.

As the title states, I could rage this app from 3 to 5 stars…I settle on 4, right in the middle of the 2. I don’t like how the stations are FREQUENTLY interrupted by commercials…often at the most inopportune times. I have a Premium Account & although I pay a monthly premium, the app has a disclaimer that the stations are responsible for the commercials and there is nothing they can do about it. I’m listening to TuneIn as I type & my song has been interrupted TWICE. If this glitch could be fixed, this app would be 5 stars all the way.

    No content. Just 100% ads
  • The "alarm clock" hasn't worked well in years...

I started using this app years ago not only for the radio stations, but also for the alarm feature so I could wake to news radio or my favorite music radio. Though it works some of the time, it's unreliable and requires that you allow their notifications and keep the app open with the screen on all night until you wake. So I get theirs pointless notifications about sports and mainstream stations, the alarm feature just doesn't work even after following all their steps. Maybe 1 of 10 attempts. It's been years of unreliability which has stopped me from upgrading to either their ad-free version or their subscription service. I'm constantly trying new radio apps looking for a wakeup-to-radio solution and though TuneIn has most of the radio stations I'm looking for, they just can't figure a way to make the alarm feature work properly, reliably, and simply.
  • Inconsistent across environments

TuneIn is great on the iPhone, sluggish on CarPlay, and no option to login if you’re in a paid account on Google/Apple TV, so it’s just commercials
