  • Airbnb is no longer a platform where honest reviews are safe or respected.

Airbnb is no longer a platform where honest reviews are safe or respected. After 10 years and 43 trips, I left 5-star reviews for every stay. I am the kind of guest who follows rules carefully: cleaning up, reading instructions, taking out trash, washing dishes, and even changing bedsheets when required. I always do what is asked. This time, we unfortunately stayed at a place that was genuinely uncomfortable. We had to move out one day early, and we left a fair and honest 3-star review. In response, the host posted a retaliatory review filled with false accusations and personal attacks. We submitted clear evidence and documentation to Airbnb, expecting basic fairness. Instead, Airbnb refused to remove the review. What makes me angry is not just the decision, but the complete indifference shown when a guest’s character and integrity are attacked. Airbnb promotes “community” and “trust,” yet when a guest finally gives an honest review after years of perfect ratings, the platform does nothing to protect them. At that moment, I realized this is not a system I want to be part of anymore. I have stopped using Airbnb entirely. I switched to hotels and became a Hilton Diamond member, and traveling is once again easy, comfortable, and stress-free. A platform that punishes honesty and tolerates personal attacks does not deserve loyal users.

    Horrible Support

Love the app, but the touch sensitivity for message reactions is way too high. Just scrolling or resting my thumb triggers a reaction, which can be awkward, especially if it’s the wrong emoji. Also please make the app fully responsive. When on iPad the components don’t fill the screen, everything shifts to the left which makes it for an awkward user experience. Lastly, I really love how in previous versions they highlighted unique Airbnb experiences. For example a stay in a castle in the French countryside. With this new version you can’t find those cool unique experiences.
  • Account Issues

I was about to create an account for the first time, and Lo and Behold, someone had created an account in a different country with my name and personal email address. I tried calling support but was instead sent a bunch of unhelpful links. I ended up using the Forget Password link to reset the account. However, when I tried using my ID to verify my identity, the stupid camera wouldn’t work. I tried it on my laptop, my desktop, and my phone, ensuring that the camera was properly enabled. And for some reason, no matter how many times I tried changing my address of residence, the default country kept changing to Singapore. My experience with AirbnB has been very frustrating. I hope they can work on improving their security to prevent issues like this happening in the future.

The way they have restructured their customer service is incredibly damaging to hosts. Let your employees actually use their brains and have a voice. You used to reach real people. Now it’s people trained to adhere to such a rigid script that they don’t listen to anything you say, and don’t think humanistically. You’re damaging what was once a thriving business, and it’s showing in your stocks. People are sick of your increasingly poor quality customer service.

Airbnb has become frustratingly non-customer-centric. Simple actions like rebooking are confusing, opaque, and unnecessarily stressful, with poor communication and support that closes conversations instead of resolving issues. I now choose hotels far more often because the experience is clearer, more reliable, and respectful of the customer.

  • Policies when a host cancels on you are atrocious

I had a host-cancelling situation that was a nightmare and was handled poorly. The host of my first booking cancelled for an unacceptable reason - she now wanted to put a family member up in the property for the holiday. I booked the place to be near family for the holiday. They gave me credit for another booking - fine. But then the second host cancelled immediately after I booked it, stating it was a technical issue, the property should not have been listed. Airbnb then made ME wait for my refund because of issues with their listing. This was unacceptable. Especially given the lateness of the original cancellation. Given that Airbnb penalizes the host by 25% of the booking amount, but then only offers guests a $25 coupon on the platform, it is unethical. I had to increase the price by more than $400 to find something in the area. Because I was constrained by the policy that only allowed me to rebook with credits on the platform, my choices became extremely limited. If they had refunded me, I would have then gone to a hotel. But I had to use Airbnb platform, so I had limited options in the area I needed to be in this specific area because I was visiting family for the holidays. Had I known about the host's cancellation risk, I would have just booked a hotel for reliability. I will never use Airbnb again because of this issue and how they handled it. To be stuck using credits on their platform in a situation where THEIR HOST cancelled, not me - that is unacceptable. And because I could only use credits, I was forced to accept something with a higher price -- I had no choice. If you had given me a meaningful credit, say, split the difference of cost at $220, that would have been better. But $25 is the cost of two lattes at Starbucks! It's meaningless. The amount of time I spent working this all out is far more than that. I spent at least 3 hours messaging, browsing new listings, and checking my bank account to ensure credits were applied correctly. They used up hundreds of dollars of my time alone to straighten out a situation that I did not cause. And they only offered me 10% of the value of my time. I will NEVER use this platform again. NEVER. BTW they do not publicly publish when hosts cancel nor allowed me to leave that host a review. Therefore, when you book, you have no idea that a host could be a cancellation risk.
  • Use the Virbo App for holiday bookings!!! Not Airbnb

Myself and several others feel that we are victims of discrimination. The specialized team refused to lift the restriction despite an appeal from a representative or even respond to my email. I attempted to reserve a location in Houston, Tx for 5 people. We just needed a place to lay our heads without being separated by a hotel or private room. However, I was flagged for “potential party” irregardless of my account being in GOOD standing and I’ve been a member for 7 years. This was due to the New Year holiday and falsified claim that there is risk of a large gathering or event. Who in their right mind would spend New Years Holiday at a random Airbnb in a popular city such as Houston. Poor customer service on Mitul’s behalf. Only one rep escalated my claim, he lied to me and said he would do that same but I didn’t get a reply from the specialized team like before instead he closed the case. Complete waste of time.
