Feedly - Smart News Reader

This app is great except for the constant “Error Loading Feed” errors.

Trying to intentionally setup a new hub for my news intake. I tried to use Feedly, but found it lacking in several areas, especially in their integration. Once I hooked up Reddit, I was unable to decouple it or change the account. There was also seemingly, after tapping everything I could find, no settings to be found in the app or system settings.

The Feedly app’s Magazine view places article titles on the left and thumbnail images on the right, a layout that feels visually unbalanced and disrupts the natural scanning flow. My attention is split between reading the headline and processing the image, making the experience less intuitive and more mentally fatiguing. In contrast, Feedly Classic uses a more ergonomic layout, with images on the left and titles on the right. That structure aligns better with natural reading patterns and supports faster, smoother article browsing. As someone who relies on visual cues when scanning news, I’ve continued using Classic for this reason. With the possibility of it being phased out, I’d strongly recommend adding a layout toggle to the main app. It’s a small change that would offer a significantly better experience for users who prefer a visual-first approach.

As much as I dislike this app I have come back as the app I was using just stopped one day. I can't for the life of me find the settings on the app now. I want to change the app to dark mode like how I had it before but there is no settings anywhere. I have clicked on every thing. So I found the settings. It's insanely stupid but you need to add at least 1 place to follow before you can. Makes absolutely no sense at all. This app is such a joke it’s not even funny. I open the app and it just goes to a blank white page. I delete the app and now it tells me constantly even when I reopen the app that there is no connection right away. It won’t let me sign in or do anything at all. I can open any and all other apps on my phone and they all work fine. So here I am still using this trash that constantly throws stories I have marked as read into me feed. It’s pretty bad when a lot of the stuff I follow is similar so these different outlets publish almost identical stories then I get Feedly into the mix. So I keep seeing the same stories over and over and over. Just today I mark a story read later hit the bottom of the app mark all as read and an hour later the exact same story and it’s even marked as read later is in my feed. Why are you so bad? I wanted to update and add I’m confused with the white screen and what I mean is when you click on a story then click on the title to be taken to the actual article you get this extremely bright white screen for a few seconds before you get taken to the story. My issue is what’s the point of having a dark mode or nite mode whatever it’s called but then blind your readers. I read Feedly a lot of the time in the dark as I have heavy blinds so it’s very dark in my room and it’s gotten to the point I click on a story and then hurry and turn my phone and wait a few seconds then turn it back to read the story. It happens to all the articles I read even ones that when they come up are in their own dark mode. I don’t know why my reviews keep getting deleted. Not sure if it’s a system thing when an update to the app comes out or what. I have used Feedly for what feels like maybe 10 years. I used to enjoy this app and have no issues but I actually hate using the app. I don’t know why but I constantly keep seeing the same news stories over and over and over. Some of them it seems to be the people I follow as they will post a story then post it again with a word or two changed in the title of the article. Others I know are the app. Just today I saved a story and then hit the button at the bottom mark all as read and they all disappeared but later that same day there is that story again with the read later tag I marked it so I can read it again. I have tried opening every article to mark it read, hitting the button at the bottom and something else that I can’t quite recall that also didn’t work. My main issue with this is a lot of let’s say the video game articles I read post the same stories so all day I see the same stories they post and then the app recycling what I have marked as read so it gets to the point I’m tired of seeing something and don’t care to read the article. Another small thing that is kinda annoying is I’ll hit the button at the bottom and all the stories will go away to be replaced by 2 and I hit the button at the bottom again and I get 2 more and do it again and get 2 more. These are older stories so not sure it’s just the app not grabbing them all or how it works exactly. The last thing I’ll say is I have tried to go find better apps but I have used Feedly so long and on a daily basis that it’s so hard to find something that works as good as I’m used to. After today I think I’m gonna force myself off it as it’s just really annoying and defeats the purpose of it being an app to read stories when I don’t want to read the stories as I keep seeing them over and over. Another thing I wanted to add and forgot is Feedly half the time doesn’t want to work when I’m on my WiFi. I turn it off and the story or what I’m looking at will load right up. I know it’s not an issue with my WiFi as I will exit Feedly and test other apps and they all load fine on my WiFi.

Do the developers really think an rss feed with 4+ folders is worth more than Netflix per month?

This is an excellent app for creating your own News aggregate feed. I like it and I use it but there is room for improvement. Unfortunately, you aren't given a full set of new links once you mark them as being viewed. Also, the Explore feature is rather useless. After you've clicked a featured link it doesn't go away or get replaced with something new. It just hangs around, grayed out. Some of the Explore links are 10 days old. That's pretty stale. News, like fish, after three days...

After my initial review below, and after several app updates, I still get errors when updating the list of articles, “broken connection” errors, articles that have been marked as read that show up again in the list as unread after refreshing, etc. Makes for a frustrating experience. And in Safari, weird rendering issues of the top bar, doubling when scrolling down the feed at the top of the page. —————— I have had issues with refreshing the feed list and having articles marked as read coming back as not read. This was before the update to ios18. Now I have been logged out, and I cannot log back in as it goes through the login process with Apple ID and then nothing happens. This didn’t happen before ios18. I deleted and reinstalled the app, and didn’t fix it.

After using Feedly for several years I have grown increasingly frustrated by how “buggy” the app has gotten. Specifically it resets my feed frequently and at random times and forces me to reload my feed or restart the app. This requires me to go through my feed from the beginning instead of where I left off. I have earnestly started looking for another option.
