Reviews

  • They can do better

I normally don’t write reviews, but I am so tired of how slowly the news stories change in my feed in this app. The top stories change daily, but as I scroll down, they stay maddeningly the same. And today (1/5/26) a “new” story pops up about how the cardinals in Rome are hitting restaurants pretty hard in anticipation of restrictions when they’re in conclave and I find myself wondering why they would be having a special meeting. Scroll up to the top of the story and oh, this is from May 2025. NO highlight that this is an old story (like other news sources do). And the interface for listening to BBC radio channels is appalling. I really miss BBC Sounds, which I cannot access as I live in the US.
  • App snap

I love reading the BBC news in the morning but with the app on my iPad when I’m finished with an article and go back to the main page, it always-always-always snaps back to the very top of the page, causing me to need to scroll back down to where my place was. It’s annoying. It’s a bug. It needs to be fixed.

Started a subscription model that blocks reading anything. Bye.
  • Pointless Push Notifications

The team that manages push notifications needs to review what is worth actually pushing out to users. News? Yeah, obviously. Useless feature articles or Best Ofs? No, why would millions around the world need to know such junk.
  • Last update

I read this most every day, for years. Excellent source of non u.s. news. This last update returns you to the very top after EVERY story. It has been very easy to not read good news, because of this. I can not wait until this issue is fixed. It has been far too long for this fix. Until then, i miss BBC news.
  • What?

Started crashing lately. Plays for a couple minutes then goes belly-up. I used to have bbc play at night. It was easy and straightforward on the previous version. Why did you wreck it? I expect this type of “improvement“ from NPR, not the BBC
  • Once Reliable

I used to rely on BBC quite a bit. I always knew they were right bias a bit but they were still very factual and balanced my other sources. Please note the past tense. The right bias has been increasing with certain news topics being under reported unless the story grows to the point they can’t pretend it doesn’t exist. They are also frequently late to report on anything. Very often i hear news from other sources days before a single article appears on BBC. I think the shift further right is the real issue. Reports are still largely factual, but word choice, phrasing, and the topics being ignored suggest there is an agenda now beyond reporting the news.
  • Why pay for a subscription and still get ads?!

I get that it’s publicly funded in the UK, so if people outside are using it for free, that’s unfair. But if I pay a subscription, why are you still drowning me in ads all the time?

  • Timely comedy, delivered stale

The decision to force non-UK listeners to wait a week for the Friday Night Comedy podcast is colossally stupid. Why? For what possible purpose? Stick in all the ads you want, fine, force me to download your app, I guess OK, but waiting a week - in 2025?!? At the rate things are happening?? These idiots in charge need all the timely heckling they can get. Who’s running the Beeb, Ned Seagoon?
