  • Quality News, Screen Full of Ads

I love the New York Times. I’ve been a subscriber since early in college. They offer well researched and reported articles ranging over various areas of interest. However, I must say that recently the ads have become a major issue, particularly for the phone application. If I’m reading articles, bright flashing ads take up half of the screen and I have to strategically move the text to hide these ads. Given that I’m a paid subscriber it would seem typical of a modern subscription to reduce the amount of distracting ads, but it seems the New York Times has increased them.

I grew up with the NYT’s; back then it was this big, fat paper bought on Sundays. Since then, I have always read the Times and enjoy the politics, entertainment and food articles immensely. There is no other paper I trust like the Times, so, go for it!!

You can always have confidence the articles in the NYT are truthful.
  • Lacking in Features

NYT is losing my readership to the Post every day by 1. Not automatically playing a queue of news articles. If I turn on one audio article, the next thing played will always be a long podcast. 2. Not allowing for articles to be read aloud on the CarPlay app. The Post curates a playlist daily for me, so I use that.

For months now the app doesn’t load when I try to get in—it just shows a black screen. I’ve tried updating it, restarting my phone, etc but nothing works… at this point I can’t even read NYT

How can one figure out what’s important without starting the day with the NYT?

I see others have mentioned similar grievances — but please make the audio tab closer to the old audio app functionality. I used to know when new stories were published and could queue ones I found interesting to listen to. The “live updates” function of the articles are fine, but listening isn’t even offered for those — assuming because it’s reported throughout the day so the content is fragmented. Even if you had a navbar tab to the right of “sections” that was simply “latest” which organized an index of stories listed in order of release (maybe with a ‘sort’ function of recently updated if we wanna get crazy), that would be great for those trying to stay most up-to-date and wanting to use your app to do so.
