  • “Fire” shouldn’t have a season

My oldest child lives in Hollywood and I downloaded this app during the Palisade and Altadena fires. This is one of the best apps not only for fires but in general. I live in NorCal where it’s “fire season” aka dry brush, winds, bad power lines or people who frequently “camp” and this app notifies and updates with photos and maps and fire in my area. I can change it too for when I visit SoCal. Thank you Watch Duty!
  • Best Wildfire App

I really like getting notice of wildfires in my area. After all the fires in our county and nearby counties, one needs to be aware of where they are. When I saw one in Mendocino County a few years ago, I could tell it was headed right for Lakeport.
  • It’s a necessity

Must have if you live in an area with fire danger. Even without an account you can get notified on up to 4 counties if your choice
  • Excellent updates

This app has unfortunately woken my household up a few times but I am forever thankful anyway. I live in So.California and rely on this app to feel informed about all the local fire activity. Quick updates and the map is very accurate.
  • All permissions are ON automatically and everything is paywalled

I didn’t even open the app after downloading it, but it started sending me notifications for fires based on my location. It never asked to access my location. Nor did it ask before sending my notifications. Not a fan of all permissions being turned fully on upon download. Also, the app is useless unless you pay. You can see the fire, but you can’t get ANY info about it without paying. Just that there is a fire, and the name. That’s it. So even though there’s a “free” option, there’s no point. I’m deleting because it’s useless and I really don’t like that it’s using my location without my permission.

This is such a great app for real time fire updates… we watch the app everyday… daily updates on what’s happening in the world of wildfire. When fire happens, this is the place to go :)
  • Why No Alaska

I can’t believe this app won an award when it doesn’t include Alaska. I’m giving it one star.

  • Watch Duty kept us informed

During the Trout fire in the Gila forest, Watch Duty kept us informed. Most radio stations don’t come in well outside Silver City and we’d have to be sitting at the radio when the update was on. The Tv stations are all from Abq. The only way most of Silver City NM gets news is from Facebook. But the filtering used by FB made it difficult to get the needed information unless you knew the correct government, forest, county websites to follow. We received no cellular phone warnings although our area went from “Ready” to “Set” in the last days. The only way we knew what was happening was Watch Duty. As Announcements were made Watch Duty provided the valuable evacuation map links and links to fire updates. At the last government meeting they suggested the Incedent fire command website which is great but only after there is an incident created. For several days when the fire started we relied on Watch Duty as Gila forest service was in charge. The incident team stated Watch Duty was not a government website but in my opinion was better than any government agency at keeping us keeping us informed. Thank you!
