Description

NATURE IS FOR EVERYONE With Birda, anyone can get outside, identify and record the birds they see, and share them with a fun and inclusive community. Modern life pushes us away from nature. Start pushing back. Birda is not your typical bird identifier app, it also connects the global community of birders irrespective of how they already record their sightings! Simply sync or import your records from eBird, Merlin Bird ID, iNaturalist, Birdtrack, Birdlasser, and more to get started. Stay motivated by joining challenges and making new friends! Don’t know a bird? Use the global field guide or tap into the community and use HI (Human Intelligence) to identify what you have seen - and grow your birdwatching & ID knowledge faster. Help protect nature by turning birding into a fun adventure. All with the help of the Birda app. Cool, right? WHO IS BIRDA FOR? Birda is a bird app & community for anyone curious about nature and birds, no matter your level of knowledge or previous bird watching experience. We want to help you enjoy birds, so you are inspired to fight to protect them. If you like fun & nature, Birda is for you! Have fun using your smartphone as a powerful tool to help conservationists protect a myriad of bird species. To get started: 1. Download Birda! 2. Head out, head up. 3. Log your bird sightings - one at a time or multiple sightings as part of a birding session. CITIZEN SCIENCE Your bird sightings have a direct impact on helping conservation, so all that time in nature is good not only for you but also for the planet. Birda sends all of the sightings data it collects to the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) so that scientists can use it to understand more about the world’s bird species and their habitats. YOU CAN ALSO: • Use AI to identify bird species in photos • Find birding locations & the bird species that occur there • Use the field guide to identify what you have seen with reference images and bird calls • Set birding goals • Get bird identification suggestions from the community • Help the community as a bird identifier • Unlock achievement badges • Take part in challenges • Automatically create bird life lists • See what birds other users have spotted • Log sightings even when you’re offline • Choose from multiple taxonomies (IOC, Clements & Birdlife HBW) IMPORTS & EXPORTS If you are coming from another platform, then there is no better way to get started than to import your records to Birda. We currently support imports from eBird, iNaturalist, Birdtrack and Birdlasser, with more coming soon. If you want to move your records to another platform, you are free to export all of your sightings from Birda. LIFE LISTS Birda automatically creates life lists of all the birds you've imported or recorded on Birda. Birda automatically generates sub-level lists based on time and geographic location. For example, you can see all your bird ticks for the last month or year and your home and patch lists (regions, countries, states/provinces & nature reserves coming soon!). TAXONOMY We understand that taxonomy can be complicated! This is especially true when people are trying to compare species across taxonomic authorities. For this reason, we built an industry-first solution to simplify taxonomy for our users. Our taxonomic engine makes taxonomy seamless, allowing users to view each other’s bird sightings in their taxonomy of choice, irrespective of what is being used by other users. PRIVACY You can choose to create a privacy zone around your address to hide the location of your garden sightings. Set up your home location, and Birda will also automatically create Home Lists and Patch lists for all the sightings you post within your Home and Patch boundaries. You have full control over what posts and GPS coordinates you share with others on Birda. Privacy Policy: https://birda.org/privacy/ Terms & Conditions: https://birda.org/terms/

  • Poor App Experience

In setting up app I granted access to only select photos from my photo album but it won’t allow me to do anything without giving full access to my camera and photo albums. Deleting and finding an app that works.
  • Disappointed :(

I was so excited to use the app but I was devastated that not every bird species was included in the identification search. Unfortunately it is a sad truth that domestic birds get released in places they shouldn’t and affect the local ecosystem as a result. I was excited to contribute to data collection of unusual sightings of domestic birds in the areas I frequent but they’re not even an option in the bird ID search. :(

I’m NOT paying $36 to use a bird identifying app/social/game and give them my data and photos, too. Immediately deleting. I’ll stick with Merlin and eBird.
  • Great app.

I have two bird apps and this one is the stronger of the two. It works well; its bird identifier is pretty good. Would be even better if I could upload videos. Otherwise it’s a good app for identifying and lighting birds.
  • Have to pay to use

You have to pay for some basic app that’s just some fancy organizer. No sound ID. App is terrible to navigate. And looks like it was made by a 2 year old child.
  • AI Voiceover on ads

Maybe you’d flop less if you didn’t use AI, lazy bones

Nothing like getting all excited for a new birdwatching app and then finding out the creators. Don’t care that you’re visually impaired. How about making this app accessible using voiceover. Cornell lab of ornithology makes their app Merlin bird ID perfectly accessible. I was looking forward to this app, however because it has a social aspect and I would love to connect with other birdwatchers. Alas, not for me as I have a vision impairment I guess visually impaired people can’t enjoy birds thanks a lot try contacting Apple for their free Developer tools to make apps accessible.
  • Seems like just for people in USA

I’ve been using this alongside Ebird for over a year and I really enjoy the interface, challenges, badges and community engagement. Unfortunately the biggest issue is the logging and data. The database is often not correct with either bird names not up to date or certain bird species not even able to be selected in a given area requiring a very tedious logging procedure. I still enjoy using but will have to default to import data going forward because it’s just too time consuming otherwise.
