iOS app will not delete files, prompts an error/same files deleted on windows
  • Excellent Alternative to Google Drive

Ever since I’ve heard that Google trains their AI by stealing stuff, I had to seek for other programs/apps. I’m glad I’ve found the Proton brand. Sure the drive’s GB limit is lower thou I wish it could be a bit higher for us free users. But I would rather keep my original and fan content safe from AI scans/theft. I even heard that Google could ban ppl for “inappropriate content” despite just making fictional content or even documenting evidence of bad behavior for online safety.

Unfortunately this app isn’t quite ready to be a replacement for Apple iCloud storage. The most glaring issue is photo backup. The app doesn’t remember what photos it uploaded and starts a recheck when you open the app fresh after a couple of days. What’s worse is it will not sync files while the app is closed. So when you want to back up your photos you need to leave the app open on the desk. O n top of that, the app will just fail to download and open the smallest of files sometimes until I clear the cache. Quite frustrating. It gets a few stars for privacy.

Any way we can get swiping gestures built into the app? 🤔
  • Face ID Issues

Face ID is not working for me. After setting it up, when opening the app I can see that Face ID was used, but nothing happens. It stays on the Face ID page. I can only use the app without extra security. Looking forward for a fix.
  • No photos album on mac?? Delete after upload option? & folders?

App & upload to cloud does not make similar views for backed up/uploaded photos to sync to mac??? Makes no sense! Where are they? Can you add the delete files after upload option? Also, no clue if possible but would be cool to selectively upload/back up only photos from a specified iphone folder/s? Awesome work as always!
  • Lacks critical search functionality

There’s a tradeoff you need to accept when switching from something like Google Drive to Proton Drive. Proton Drive has end-to-end encryption, thus Proton can’t read any of your data. Google Drive, for example, grants Google almost limitless access to read your files. For the privacy-minded, Proton Drive is the obvious choice. But encryption introduces major limits on iOS. Most problematically, you cannot search for files. Not even by file name. There is currently no search at all on the Proton Drive iOS app. This is a major deficiency when comparing the app to competing services. Again, this is currently the tradeoff one has to be willing to make in order to gain privacy, but what a massive tradeoff it is. For those of you who have a lot of files and perhaps aren’t disciplined in your folder structures, you will have a very challenging time locating your files while on your mobile device. I implore the team at Proton to develop a solution to this if you want to pull users away from the competition. Search is a table stakes feature that is inexcusably omitted from the product. I so badly want to permanently move off of Google Drive, but I can’t in good conscience do so until there’s a reasonably good way of locating my files on the go.
  • Photo backup not smooth

I've loved switching my file and photo storage from the traditional big tech companies to Proton, but the photo backup feature on iOS is a bit buggy. Every few days it will stop backing up new photos, no matter how long I leave the app open. The only way to fix it and get caught up is to "Clear Local Cache" (thanks for the tip Support team).

I’ve tried to use and like this app, but I’m done with it. I’ve tried using it off and on over the past 2 yrs. Contacted support numerous times over issues. Finally kind of got it going. Seemed fine for a while. Now, I open it, it says backing up 1500+ photos. (They’re already backed up.) It just hangs there, does nothing. Back and forth with support, try this and that. I’m a paid subscriber, I pay you to give me a working product. I’m not getting paid to fix your stuff. Just not worth it, I’ll take my chances with Google Photos.
