Description

Your home is under attack. The king is dead at the hands of Viking invaders. Hope is a distant glimmer in the fog, fading fast with every passing moment. As you rise to take your father’s place as ruler, it will fall to you to stage your defenses. But make no mistake – this is no fight for victory, but a desperate grasp for survival. Bad North is a charming but brutal real-time tactics roguelite. Defend your idyllic island kingdom against a horde of Viking invaders, as you lead the desperate exodus of your people. Command your loyal subjects to take full tactical advantage of the unique shape of each island. Everything is at stake: fail, and watch the blood of your subjects stain the ground red. It’s charmingly brutal, with beautiful procedurally-generated islands and adorable soldiers juxtaposed against the blood-stained realities of war. You control the broad strokes of the battle, giving high level commands to your soldiers who try their best to carry them out in the heat of the moment. It’s accessibly deep, with simple player inputs masking a dynamic combat simulation that make it inviting to new players while challenging veterans. Keep fighting, warriors. Not for power or riches or glory, but for hope of peace to come once again in the harsh lands of the Bad North. Key Features REAL-TIME TACTICS ROGUELITE: Position and relocate your troops to fend off the Vikings, who each have their own counters to the threats you pose. Pick your battles and plan your evacuations carefully! Lose a commander and they’re gone forever; lose everything, and it’s game over! INTELLIGENT UNIT CONTROLS: You command the broad strokes of your defenses and monitor positioning — your soldiers do the rest, navigating and engaging intuitively in response to the situation at hand. PROCEDURALLY-GENERATED ISLANDS: Each island is both stylistically charming and unique in its layout. Plan your strategies around every nook and cranny, for you only get one chance to save them from the enemy invasion. UNLOCKABLE UPGRADES: A stronger, smarter defense leads to greater rewards. Use these to develop your subjects from a ragtag militia into seasoned warriors.

Every detail is done with care. Amazing audio work as well. Good difficulty.
  • Great but one extra thing to legendary.

I love the fun little maps and skills and troops, the overall game is one of the best I have played on a computer. If thedy would add multiplayer, it would definitely make it even better and might be my favourite game overall. But I still love this, minimalistc game, and how fun it is.

A very entertaining game, deceptively simple on the surface, but with lot's of subtle elements that become increasinly important as you push the difficultly level up. Lot's of nice graphical details, too. Well done!

My iPad and iPhone are in sync. Really disapointed this isn't. Also super choppy.
  • Fun and not overly complicated

But still challenging enough to keep your attention. Nice for the casual player. Get in, fight one battle, then back to work!

I really enjoy playing this game but, the bugs make nearly unplayable(i know thats redundant) whenever i try to play a level the frame rate drops significantly and the screen flashes white, almost giving me a seizure. I then have to quit out of the gaem and reopen it and pray that it doesn't happen this time. There are also massive drops in frame rate through out the game that seriously slows down the flow of this game. cant say i recomend buying this gaem for 15 dollars. very disappointing≥
  • Very Resource Intensive and Crashes -- But fun!

I really enjoy playing this game on my iPad Mini 4, and so I thought I would buy it for my MBP (Early 2015). According to the entry here on the App Store, it should run. And it does... But the last time I played for just a few minutes, the CPU temp went up to 81C and the fan went wild. The game play was slow and the graphics suffered from the resource requirements. I like this game, but I probably won't be playing it on my MBP (2015). Maybe in a year or so when I get a newer laptop, I will look at it again. Oh, and for the gent who thought we should all know about how to do "left button" "right button" on a track pad, Ctrl-click will also work. Not sure why, though, on the initial run, Bad North asked for permission to intercept key strokes from other applications. Bottomline: If you have older hardware, even if the App Store says it will run on your equipment, save the money you'd spend on this game towards a new laptop/computer. In the long run, it's overall the better decision.
  • Lots of fun!

What a great little game. I can play in short bursts, as a single island only takes a few minutes. And yet it's challenging to craft your strategy based on the ever-changing terrain of the islands. I've encountered no bugs, running on a macbook pro.
  • Won't quit.

Must be something in the MacOS build--but once I'm playing the game, there doesn't seem to be a way to open a control panel to actually quit the game. Hmmm. Only way out is to totally reboot my Macbook Air (OS is totally up-to-date). Pain!
