  • Major Changes; Huge Bummer

It’s so hard to rate this game because I love it so much but every change they’ve made recently is so frustrating! The number of uses per item for Season Pass holders has been halved, the amount of gold given as their daily “reward” was almost halved (500 to 300), and now the number of unlocks has gone down. I really loved this game but the things that used to make it exciting are now just kind of disappointing.

If you don’t purchase new items you could never decorate the way you want. The items they give you don’t match such as rugs and curtains etc so you could never win or get a good rating on your design. There’s no point on trying . Uninstalling
  • Great execution of a design game, questionable charges and artistic liberties

Like my title said, love the options and challenges, I’m a bit of baby designer myself so it’s great to put together a mood and see if it resonates with others. I am concerned however that my charges may not be synonymous with what I purchased? Also I have seen others comment that designs are being used without the original artists’ permission. I do hope you see the potential you have with this platform, and use it be so much more than a cash grab. Cheers!

The concept of the game is ingenious in its simplicity: you get different challenges in which you get a room with everything in white and you have to pick the colors and materials for the different furniture pieces. Once you submit your design, it will compete with other players. There are 2 types of challenges: in one you will compete with 10 random players and another one is a design duel between you and one other player. Your design will be voted up or down by other players. You gain access to new materials by winning the challenges or by spending star coins, but these are pretty hard to come by and unless you are ready to spend a great deal in in-app purchases, expect to take a long time to build a decent portfolio of materials to use in your challenges. As other players have mentioned, over time the app has become visibly less generous with its coins and materials, presumably in an effort to push in-app purchases. The seasonal items are also a fun addition to your portfolio and in general I end up spending the 4.99 $ per month to get the items. Consider that getting materials that you can refill with gold is not going to help you much as these coins are also going to be gone really fast and also very hard to come by. You have to be very strategic from the start on what boxes of materials you want to open and where you want to spend your gold coins. I personally suggest to invest in metals and neutral materials as opposed to colors as i noticed they are generally favored in the challenges. (Except duel challenges, those seem to favor colors) Here a few tips for better results in the traditional challenges: steer away from bright colors as fuchsia and yellow. Even if you do the best avant garde design, the voters reflect the taste of the general public which will most likely not appreciate it. Try to go monochromatic in the same hue whenever possible. Black and white is generally appreciated especially for kitchens. Room for girls in all pink also seems to be fan favorites. 🙄 Stick to neutral colors for your couch. The only way to understand where you rank is to look how your average score compares against others. It is not openly stated but it appears that as you progress with the challenges they pair you with players that also have better ranking so it gets tougher to win. There are no particular perks if you have higher scoring as of now. Voting as many have pointed out, is pretty mysterious. Overall, the design duels seem to be more objectively voted than the regular challenges, but you don’t get much if you win. I give it 5 stars as it is a very enjoyable game, and you can easily get hooked on it. Just try not to get upset if someone’s crappy design wins over yours… maybe next time for some obscure reasons your questionable design is going to win. ;)
  • Small fortune to fully enjoy

Started out loving this app but after going through initial welcome package to purchase items and making several other purchases - you are bound to hit a frustrating road block unless you want to empty your real personal bank account. Good items that are needed to make any design difference work together well all cost stars which are near impossible to get in an amount to make a difference and even purchasing them you don’t get many for your money. I will give them that voting gets you cash - and you can vote unlimited- but if course the cash buys you things that don’t work with some design requirements. Really really loved this app at first. Now it seems like more of a money drain than another home decor app I was enjoying before finding this one. I find myself voting now not necessarily for the best design but for all those poor souls who have to use those items we all recognize being used by us poor people. Haha
  • Keep getting kicked off after I get so far.

Why am I getting kicked off after I go so far. It very frustrating when you are trying to place a design and you are blacked out or get kicked off.
  • Thanks for not being match 3

I’m so happy this app just allows you to decorate without playing meaningless match 3 games. However, it needs waaaaaay more choices of colors and finishes. Most of them are locked unless you pay, which I get, but even after pouring $40 in the game, I am so tired of the same options over and over. The general set up is extremely limiting, and what you get for your real money isn’t worth the price. Please double the amount of choices, both free and paid! It doesn’t take much work to do new colors and finishes.
  • Used to be my fave game, sadly no longer

Yall. I used to love this app. I mean, I played it seriously — timed the hours that challenges opened and everything. But I barely open it now because of all of the blatantly money-hungry updates. First red flag: seasons went from lasting 50-ish days to one month. Then Redecor made basically all unlocks exclusive to season pass members. I won’t lie, I did buy season passes initially, but it was only so I could get EXTRA unlocks and join EXTRA challenges. Mind you, these were the days where everyone got 20 unlocks per season regardless of whether they paid for the pass. Meanwhile, if you paid for season pass you got 40 (FOURTY!!!) unlocks. It was honestly a good deal, especially since seasons lasted quite long. Now each season lasts one month and you only get 10/30 unlocks on the free version. Not only is that half of what you got originally, but even if you pay for a pass you get ten less than you used to! AND you have to pay more often. Second, I got so fed up with the ranking system. There are so many reviews regarding this so I won’t waste my breath. Just read what everyone else has to say. Third, the rate of new unlockable content does not keep up with the maximum number of star coins earned. I designed every challenge twice and still felt like I never had enough coins to unlock new items. And let’s not get started on how basically everything decent looking costs gold! Again, plenty of reviews touch on this so read them. Fourth, the interface gets worse and worse. I took a few months off playing Redecor and came back last week. I hate how you can no longer default to seeing what you already own! Plus the little plants are awful — you pay huge prices for things you can only use once! Yall already have a ton of negative reviews so I doubt mine will make a difference, but it makes me so sad. I used to love Redecor because you never had to pay to play — now it’s just another Design Home where you can’t do sh*t without paying for it. Like I genuinely used to recommend this app to my friends for good free fun. Now I look like a total mug. All of its charm is gone. I don’t have any hope for the app to rebound, but I do hope I can dissuade people hoping to join. It’s really just not worth it IMO.
  • Just a couple ideas

Hello There! Fantastic app, my daughter and I just love doing these together. I LOVE the new picture decor pieces you’ve added recently, please keep them coming! If I may - it would be awesome to have some more “kitchen” themed pictures added… like fruit images (lemons, cherries, limes, grapes, etc…,) it would be cool to have some “cook book” looking images, and some cute “farmhouse” themed images like pigs, cows, chickens, horse, old barns, and rural landscape images. Would be amazing! Also, just an idea if you were to do a one time special, where you could pay to pick out a total of maybe only 10 old “season pass” items of your choice. I am not asking to be able to get all pass season items but since we just started a few months ago, it would be cool to have a one time option to buy, again maybe 10 items of our choice from your old season pass items. There are so many I know I wouldn’t be able to get all that I’d like to have, but it would be very cool to get a chance to at least buy a few. Wish I had known about this app sooner! Keep up the fun!
