(Subscription required.) --- “On the iPhone I use an app called Unread. … If you ever use the Clear app for your to-dos or shopping lists where it’s very opinionated, very limited, and very gesture-based, it’s kind of like that for RSS readers. And I like that a lot on the phone. I have a lot of muscle memory there, and I enjoy the design of it quite a bit.” — Marco Arment, Accidental Tech Podcast “Unread carries a strong history as one of the top RSS clients on iOS, and version 2 ensures that will remain true for a long while yet.” – Ryan Christoffel, MacStories “Unread is focused on eliminating chrome — it is a pure reading app. It’s like reader mode all the time, and the assortment of color themes is nicely curated.” – John Gruber, Daring Fireball --- Unread has full VoiceOver coverage. Every screen and every feature is available to users with vision impairments: • From any screen you can perform a magic tap, a two-finger double tap, to open a menu of options available for that screen. • When on an article list, there are actions available for each article in the list. After selecting an article, invoke the accessibility rotor and then select “Actions”. There is an action to mark the article read or unread, an action to share the article, and many others. • Use the VoiceOver escape gesture, a two-finger “Z”, to back out of the current screen. --- UNREAD SUBSCRIPTION Unread is a free app. Additional functionality is available with a $19.99 (USD)/year auto-renewing subscription: • Widget customization options. • Article actions for sending articles directly to supported bookmarking and read later services, and for sharing via email or iMessage. • Caching of webpage text and images. • Custom app icons. • Save to Unread share sheet extension. • Premium support. A subscription automatically renews unless it is canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period. You can manage and cancel your subscriptions by going to your account settings on the App Store after purchase. Unread’s Terms of Use are available at: https://www.goldenhillsoftware.com/unread/terms-of-use/

  • Navigation/UX is unintuitive, but the article viewer is 10/10

I don’t care much for the design of the app and find the UX to be unintuitive, but the reader/display of articles in the best I’ve tried out of a half-dozen or so RSS apps - it’s really freaking good! I just wish the dev would add integration with Miniflux API, for that sweet, sweet, mark on scroll functionality that fever cant offer.
  • Almost perfect

UI and gestures are buttery smooth and I love it. Full text extraction works really well and is presented beautifully. I would prefer some additional options for user customization, especially with the font. I do not like the default font in this app and there is no option to change it. Please update to allow for font customization! 🙏🏻
  • Nice Design

The app seems well designed, a different take on the RSS reader. I didn’t get to really give it a complete try though because I use miniflux, which supports fever and google reader APIs. Unread supports only fever of the two, and fever doesn’t support marking read on scroll. That’d be okay if there were other effective if there were perhaps other options, like “mark read all articles above” or below the selected article, but if there were such options I couldn’t find them. I’d love to give it another go if another compatible api was added.
  • From a long-time NewsBlur user

I’ve been an avid and mostly happy NewsBlur user for over a decade. Despite my enthusiasm, zero percent of the friends I recommended it to declined to adopt it due to the complexity of the UI. Their loss, but there are issues to be sure. So when I recently discovered that I could continue using NewsBlur with my nearly 500 subscriptions I was intrigued. Now, after a week of using Unread as a front end I am quite happy. The Unread UI is clean and orderly, and the performance (once my recent articles have been refreshed) is good. I confess I’ll miss having each feed’s icon displayed, and I also lose all of the training I’ve done on NewsBlur. But Unread renders my articles better (after tuning with the Display option, which is brilliant) which eliminates some of the frustrations with NewsBlur. I’ll probably continue to rely on NewsBlur, at least for a while, to avoid the drudgery of copying all my subscriptions over to Unread. This was a great find!
  • Best RSS app

Clean UI, full-screen/distraction-free reading, by far the best text parser out of all the popular rss readers/read-later apps I’ve tried… Pulls full article text, images, sub-headings, quotes, etc., perfectly nearly every time. Works great on both my iPhone and iPad. Developer is very responsive to help requests. Only downside is no Mac app at the moment, but it is currently in development according to website. Free version was enough for me, but decided to upgrade to premium to support the developer. Spend around an hour everyday reading my feeds in this app, so $19 a year is well worth it.
  • Decent but pricey and not available on M1 Mac

In terms of UI, this RSS reader is quite nice but it’s also very pricey with an annual subscription. If they allowed the app on the M1 Mac, it might be worth the price.
  • Great App - 1 defect

This is a great simple reader app. I love the gesture-based navigation. Clean and ergonomic design. A little difficult to figure out/discover all the app’s features. The only problem is that when reading articles you can’t see the clock on the screen’s upper left. I use rss readers during my work breaks, and need to see the time to know when my break is done.
  • Clunky and poorly thought out

    - Does not show all articles - No navigation buttons, and the “swipe” does not work most of the time; there’s a reason people put in navigation buttons - There should be no reason to make an account. If’s literally just news articles why do I have to make an account to view the news??? Overall a very miserable 5 minutes. Uninstalling and not reinstalling :(
  • Way too expensive with no Mac app

RSS readers are a dime a dozen these days. This is a good one with many options but way too expensive for just an iPhone and iPad app. For that cost it must have a synced macOS version.

Put some more work in to the wording. It’s a significant update! You worked hard on it
