  • Great Recipe Saver!

This app makes it easy to grab recipes from the web and it’s free with no limits so far!
  • Some features are great but one aspect is frustrating.

I use this app a lot to save my recipes. I’m a foodie who loves to bake and try new things. I like that you can save the links and put them in your own categories. You can also write notes about what you changed, substituted, add, cooking time, etc. The most frustrating feature is the ingredients list. It says you can just write your ingredients in a paragraph (I use commas between ingredients) and then it will create the list. It doesn’t work! At all! You have to click add ingredient & put in each one. It gets tedious esp when you should just copy a list & add. On top of that, if you put any qualifier to an ingredient, ie Unsalted, finely chopped, Ancho chili, it will drop it completely & sometimes it will also drop the quantity. I’ve learned to just use Step 1 as my ingredient list. Then I can paste or type the entire list at once. If I find a better app, I’ll switch but so far this is adequate.

UPDATE: been on this app for literally years now, since when it was “whisk” and I’m sad to say I’m on the lookout for a new app. Many, many recipes are not calculating the nutrition facts, even when all the ingredients are recognized. I need that function… husband was diagnosed with diabetes since writing my original review. He’s not on insulin, so it’s not like I need it super dialed in. But I do need to see roughly what is going to easy on him and avoid the things he can’t digest as easily. So all the other positive elements aside, I can’t continue. All that aside, it still remains the best app on the market that I’ve found, so my rating isn’t changing. Old:So I’ve been to the moon and back with meal planning apps. I’m talking a 5+ year hunt to find something that doesn’t have a fatal flaw. I felt like Goldilocks switching between way more than three options. One was too expensive, one didn’t give accurate nutrition info, one was a pain in the butt to enter recipes, one had been a good app before the developers abandoned it, one generated a whole weekly meal plan, but was hard to tailor to fit my tastes... the list goes on. For the past year or so, I’ve been using a regular old note-taking app for recipes in combination with an e-calendar extension (meant for assignment due dates) for the meal plan. A pen and paper for the shopping list. And now I found Whisk. I’m Goldilocks about to collapse in relief on Baby Bear’s bed. I don’t have a problem finding recipes- The World Wide Web has given me plenty of options. It’s a snap to upload a website recipe- and I can snap a picture of a printed recipe using their “Scan to Whisk” app. The meal planning tab is intuitive and easy to use. If I need three onions across 4 different recipes, the shopping list combines them in a beautifully hands-off way. And... (this is the best part) I can upload my list to a store and have my whole order available for pickup, or use InstaCart and have it (gasp) delivered! Jeez, where has this been all my adult life?! Be aware, the app doesn’t pull recipe instructions from websites. They say it’s to respect the source (other apps do this too), and I’m fine with that. If you’re really keen on this, you can copy and paste- one extra step is not a trial for me.
  • Plz fix health score bug

There’s a bug that’s preventing new saved recipes from generating a health score. Please fix. FYI, I’m still mad about y’all dumping the Whisk brand & replacing it with the ugly, self serving “Samsung Food”. You had such a great app on your hands!!

Makes meal prepping and grocery shopping soooo much easier. Have it on mine and my husbands phones so we both can add to the list and tag team it in the store. Definitely helps us with budgeting (only buying what we actually need for the week) and keeping us more on track with eating healthier.
