Exactly what I was looking for. Free, easy to use, and password protected. I wouldn’t change a thing.

I have a monthly subscription, the app locked me out and is forcing me to do a yearly subscription. I advise to avoid, they do not have their act together.
  • Potential, but serious deal-breakers.

It looks like it might be a wonderful app, the user interface is nice and has decent functionality, but the deal breakers (2) for me: that importing my previous data (1000+ entries) in Evernote format doesn’t work, and exporting data is extremely limited. I have burnt my fingers 3 times on software and apps that I invested years (even decades) of my time into, and then pufff they are discontinued. And twice, the proprietary formats were incompatible with an alternative. So, until I know that I can import and save my data to an from an external format, I will not invest in DayOne. If someone can prove me wrong, I’d gladly change my 1-star rating to a 5-star, because the app itself deserves that.
  • Great for making yearly photo books

I’m not great at writing a journal, but I am good at taking photos. I use this app to share a few photos a week, sometimes every day, and I write a short caption for each day. At the end of the year I create a PDF (sometimes have to split into 2 because of large file sizes) and then I go at another book making site to publish my “year in review book”. I don’t have total control of the layout, but I’m fine with that. I’m just happy this is easy to use and the project is done. This is my 4th year now. (I’d happily consider publishing the book through this app but when I’ve tried it said the file was too large due to all the photos.)
  • Cavalier and Aloof Customer Service

After 10+ years of keeping a premium membership, it only took two cavalier and aloof customer service interactions today to help me realize that the free Apple app can work just as well. Day One does not care about its subscribers. I can get that lack of care from Apple. Thanks for the years of service. Now, it’s time to move on. Update: This review, they will reply to publicly. Meanwhile, the email conversation I was having with customer support went cold—no replies. Reply to my messages instead of telling me to seek help. I have sought your help. It went no where except to patronization.
  • Very bad voice recognition

Been using it for a while. It has horrible voice recognition. It takes longer to voice type my notes and correct them than it does to just type.

Day One is the single most useful app I’ve ever purchased on the App Store. Because it doesn’t have ads or track my data, I actually want to use it. It completely changed my life. My relationship with my past, my memory, analysis of everything, the world around me, all is possible because I built a good habit of using this app. My life would be considered worse without this app. In a world where most apps are trying to exploit us, financially, psychologically or more often, both at the same time, Day One is the only app that reminds me of my own humanity and compels me to experience my life in a more in-depth way. Thank you, never change

for the last couple of weeks, the app has been in eternal download. The download are the update never completes, and therefore the app never opens. I’m not sure what the problem is. I don’t want to delete and lose all of my information. Please help.
  • Daily, Sometimes

A photo and a little bit about what I did that day is usually all I need. Sometimes I remember to write down my feelings about that as well. It’s always fun to look back at previous years.
